GeForceFX cards are underwhelming.

No need to wait. The Radeon 9500 Pro is going to disappear once the cheaper to make 9600 Pro's replace them.

ati xpert 98 8mb 2x agp vid card 2d/3d

if my new mobo supported the old agp technology, i'd still be using that vid card! I have it stowed away for a rainy day!

ATI 9500: You can soft mod to 9700.
ATI 9700: You can soft mod to 9800.

I have ATI 9700 non-pro and I'm very pleased by its performance. Think I will upgrade all my systems to 9700 once the price drops below $200.

Well, if you want to spend all the way up to the $200 and get the best performance, get a GF4 Ti4600. The performance is better, but if you are looking for the cheapest/performance ratio, ya.. 9500.

Not really anymore. They recalled all the ones on teh market that could be modded. And even the ones that could have done it, teh mod failed on. There is 0 chance of finding a 9500 non=pro that can be modded into a 9700 now. Unless you are in some mom and pop computer shop and they happen to have an l-memory chip 9500 non-pro just sitting on the shelf.
