Now here's the real question.. How do you KNOW it's actually burning at 52x? I could be that the software just reads the firmware of the drive and displays what it reads.

The real test would be to put a *real* 52x drive in your system and time them side by side.

I actually got in on a deal on a Cendyne 52x which is actually a rebadged ASUS. I'm burning on 16x media but can't get it to go over 48x with Nero even though the drive is recognized as 52x...

I don't mean to be smart, but how much time do you save going from 48X to 52X? I believe that only the last half of the burn is at top speed, so 8% faster divided by 2 equals 4% faster total time . And if you're burning to the hard drive and then back, the total time saved is probably, say 5 seconds?
