a buddy of mines told me that he fliped his cpu fan so that the air flows in through the sides and out the top of the heat sink. his overall cpu temps dropped by a few degrees. just wanted to know if anyone else has tried this.

If you have an equal # of in and out fans you will create a good airflow which will lower temps in your case. Cable clutter and size of your case also has a lot to do with it. Get rounded cables and a bigger case and an equal number of in and out fans and you will notice lower temps.

Canta, I think garfull was referring to the direction of the CPU fan, not case fans.

And yes, garfull, it is the general concensus that CPU fans should be an exhaust fan for the processor rather than trying to blow air down through the fins of the heatsink.

Coolers work better with the fan shooting air down. It disapates heat faster. More blow than suck. What kind of cooler was your friend using?
