Trying to find a site for hacking wireless cards to use external antennas.

Ok, did a little more looking about.
is the SMC2632W (http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?sec=Products&pg=Product-Details&prod=255&site=c) a good wireless nic? I found a guide to modify it (http://www.guerrilla.net/reference/80211_mod/SMC2632_antenna_mod/). It's also pretty cheap (http://gotapex.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=339635/search=SMC2632W).

Here ya go - save yourself the agony. Get yourself one of these (http://www.demarctech.com/products/reliawave-rwz/reliawave-rwz-100mw-prism2-5-pcmcia-card.html). Yes, it's pricy, but it already has an external antenna adapter, and it has a higher receive sensitivity (http://freenetworks.org/moin/index.cgi/ReceiveSensitivity) than any other card reviewed, including the Cisco and Orinoco. If you're thinking of doing a little war driving, this is the card to have.

Hmm, Interesting link.. What do you think the absolute maximum range of something like this is?

Can I ask what "war driving" is?

I think that would vary quite a bit depending on the location... all I know is that when I'm using this card side by side with another laptop with a Linksys, I can get a solid 100% signal while the Linksys is at 57%. I've also gotten a clear signal a good 40-50 feet away from where the Linksys dropped, so I can confidently say, "A lot further than Linksys!"
I didn't think there would be that much of a performance difference with this card, but I was considering replacing my WAP at home 'cuz the signal didn't make it to the far corners of the house. Once I got this baby I didn't have to worry about the WAP anymore. It replaced a 3Com X-jack card, so I guess I can also say that the range is a lot further than 3Com as well.

alrighty, my friend actually gave me a card to use and it has an external antenna connecter (reverse sma). I have a friend that i'm going to connect to. but i don't think the card alone will connect. so luckly both of us actually have a spare satllite dish laying around.
I don't know about his dish, but my dish has a catv connector and I wanna try it before going to a more extravagant solution (http://www.wwc.edu/~frohro/Airport/Primestar/Primestar.html). I am trying to find a way to connect the card to the satellite. The only possibility i found so far was to do this:
reverse sma -> bnc -> catv
I could not find any reverse sma -> catv adaptors. anyone know where I could find one, or give another solution?

Heya, I see the external antenna it has, but where is the external antenna adaptor?
edit1: and do you know tthe difference between the 100Mw and the 200Mw cards?
edit2: heh, looks like it's the output power.

Yup, output power. I got the 100Mw & it's great. I think the 200Mw would make a difference in a peer-peer setup where you're transmitting a lot.
I got the antenna adapter (http://www.demarctech.com/products/mount-cable-assemblies.html) & the antenna (http://www.demarctech.com/products/reliawave-antennas/2400-2483M_direct.html) from the same company.
