OK, so many of you know that I had all of those problems with my Dell Laptop to the point that Dell ended up buying it back. So the situation is this, I am stuck on my old desktop...and I am trying to figure out my options here. I am trying to spend as little as possible on upgrading the old system.

The old system is a Micron with the following components:
Processor: P3 500 mhz
motherboard: - dont know which one...I would have to open the case and look
RAM: 486 mb PC100
HD: 13 gig (yes its small)
Vid Card: Viper V770
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Live
CDRW: 8x
DVD: 8x
Hard ware decoder card for the DVD
Full tower

In terms of other parts that I have laying around the house:
48X Lightning CDRW, PC133 RAM, 30 gig hd (I can canabalize from another system)...everything else is too old.

Now that you know what I am working with (without making new purchases), what would you guys recommend I do. Remember I am trying to spend as little money as possible...especially in light of the fact that I can find "deals" on full systems for around $400.

TIA

I suggest selling off your components piece by piece either here or on a place like Ebay. Then, taking your proceeds and purchasing a full system from one of the deals posted.

I'd stick the 48x CDRW in place of the 8x, and then stick the 30 GB HD in there. I've got a pc133 256MB kingston RAM stick I could sell ya :D
