Spent $150 at SVC:
356 mg True Samsung 3200 DDR 400mhz $50 :) CL3 :(
http://www.svc.com/m368l3223dtm-cc4.html

The king of air coolers!:) $50 :(
Thermalright SLK-900 Socket Cooler - Accepts 92mm Fan (4 bolts)
http://www.svc.com/noname10.html

Sunbeam Rheobus Fan Speed Controller (Retail Boxed w/4-pin Y-Adapter)
This is a nicely made rheobus. Superbright leds go from off to red to blue depending on how much cooling you need. Not good for cpu cuz someone can turn the fan off and kill it. $20
http://www.svc.com/surheafanspc1.html

Laser Cut 80mm "Atomic Energy" Grille
Adds a little flash and at $1.50 a pop..........
http://www.svc.com/lascut80atch.html

Various thumb screws for like $10. The black anadized ones are holding up ok so far.

I ordered it the previous weekend and got it all on Wednesday. Installed the Ram on Friday and still havent hooked up the cooler. Must be getting old cuz there was a time when I would have had everything up and running that night.

I got the system fairly stable at 150 FSB. With the dividers the ram is at 400mhz exactly and the 1.8a is at 2.7 Ghz. I have to run my modded tt7+ /tt smart fan at full (75 cfm @48dBa!!!) when im gaming. While surfing etc I can run it at low. Its connected to the fan controller from the tt7+ cuz the fan control that came with it wasnt working. I kinda like the 3 position controller. Silent, noticeable & Loud. WC3 freezes up after around 15 minutes on medium.
High is ok but its too loud.

I'm expecting 5-10 degrees lower (x's fingers, 10 degrees) with the SLK-900. Hopefully I can run the fan at medium or find a silent 92mm. Have to pull out the mobo and take off the p4 bracket and add screws to mount it. Maybe next weekend.

Looking for 2.8Ghz at 1.7 volts and under 30dBa.

I know what you mean. I'm at the point now, where I have modded everything (except water cooling), and the difference between 2.5 GHz and 2.2 GHz isn't worth the extra 30 db.

I think the next case I build will have no case fans, or side walls (as we know them). I'll use a Zalman passive CPU cooler and a cage for the PS and case. I figure if it's all exposed to the air, it will cool just fine, using simple convection currents.

The one hurdle I haven't figured out how to deal with is the hard drives. I have two 7200 rpm 8MB Maxtors that are wicked fast in a RAID 0 array (>50,000 MB/sec), but since they run at full speed all the time, they are the noisiest thing in my case.

Ideas on quieting the hard drives w/o sacrificing speed?

(So far, I've tried using electrician's tape on the sides of the hard drives to add a little cushioning, but it was of little help)

Yeah, I was a little suprised at the the deal on that amount myself and than I plugged it in and ...... oh, thats not 356mg. :(

:P

Hard drives are a tough deal. If I were really trying to silence one, I'd build a cage around it with sound deadening materials. Sound damping materials would help but won't eliminate the sound. I have a couple of removable hd drives that would work, but heat would kill the drives.

The easiest way is too invest in those less noisy maxtors. I havent played with them but they're supposed be less noisy.

Yeah, I have one of teh Maxtors with the water-bearings and gears. Its really quiet. I don't hear it over my cpu fan.

Saw this on the news page.

I have this case in black for my 2nd rig. It goes on sale at Frys for $60 every once in a while (normally $80). Case temps at or under 30c and the side window/ fan really seems to help temps.

For the price I like this better than my Antec. I agree with the article and have cut myself twice on this case. You can hear the side fan. It scratches pretty easy.

The window design is ok. The front plates can be taken apart and painted or modded. Might paint it all black under the plexi and try to stealth the drives.

Ps seems to work pretty good and isnt too loud.

I will have pics of both rigs by summer.... or sometime.

i could also get ONE quieter higher-wattage PSU, remove the GFX fan and replace the whole cooler with a huge heatpipe, but im not gonna. :P im too cheap to change em.

You CF, cheap? No. Not you man. Your the chosen, the few, the fool.

My boy!

Starting to get good temps (40-43c) with this "modded tt7+" while surfing etc. The AS3 must of set. 4x-55c while gaming, etc. on medium (fan) and its audible but not too annoying. I don't have to change fan settings unless I want total silence. Prime 95 ran without problems for a couple of hours.

1.65 volts (can go lower I think), 150 fsb(can go higher I think), 2.7ghz(x's fingers). If only I had the energy to finish this project.

The ram is rated for 400mhz C3. The problem is my board only has C2 or C2.5. Think Im lucky to get it stable at 400mhz Have to raise the voltage and memtest it to find the limits.

Now I don't feel like changing coolers. It really is a nice looking/performing (according to reviews) cooler. Gotta put it in and find the limits of my chips. Again, I'm lazy.

156 fsb, 2.8ghz, 1.7 volts, 44 c right now. Fan on high and is very loud. Temps doesn't seem to be my problem while surfing etc.
If I can grab a 5 - 10 degrees I might be able to get this stable enough to game etc @2.8Ghz.

1 gig oc! :)

Not stress tested yet but will be soon. If it's not stable its cuz it needs more juice and I'm not going past 1.7 volts.

Mounted the new heatsink. Took a little longer than I thought it would. SLK900/tt fan (3245 rpm) temps are 36 c while idle/surfing and 4x while gaming, etc. 2.7ghz @1.63 volts. I can go silent but I need a little more testing to reassure myself nothings gonna fry.

I didnt bother cleaning the A3 off the chip/old cooler. I just added a little more A3. Fan is on medium and audible but not too noisy. The heatsink does not cover the whole chip. There's a couple of mm on either side but it still performs flawlessly. The heatsink could slide just a tiny bit after being screwed down. No other complaints yet.

Also found a way to break 15k on 3dmark2001.....

9700tx coming this week from Dell....and a 18" LCD. :P

Next to finish case, go wireless, add lights and have an ultra geek set up.

-jel:halo:
ps: why lights? cuz it makes it look/go faster just like stickers on cars. :D

Man, I've had the hardest time ocing this 9700 tx. 1st changing the bios to one that works well and now getting the new bios, drivers and tweaking utility to work together.

Ocing with Nvidia is a cake walk compared to this. With Ati and the locked gpu its all kind of work. Some bios work better with some cards with certain memory and etc etc blah blah blah.

For a while it wouldnt let me oc it at all and than it let me oc it to almost max 350x/35x before artifacting. Yet still low scores. Now I finally am getting it dialed in and it looks like 3xx/300 will be the max for ram. I am still having trouble getting the new clock to stick. Sometimes it does and sometimes it drops back to 268/268. It stays on if I leave the menu up.

I do not recommend this card for hardcore ocing etc. Get a 9700pro or a 9500pro/old non pro. I got the better 3.3 ns infineon ram and I'm not getting past 300mhz. Most come with 3.6ns ram. From what I've researched the 2.8ns samsung ram cards are the ones to get. Still everything looks great and for $130 I can't do better.

-jel:halo:
ps: I will get a decent oc out of this card if it kills.......... it.

haha, lights are badass- i have 6 uv ccfls in my rig!

ive had my watercooling setup for a while now, my new mobo and cpu just came in, hopefully i can all get it installed in the next few days. cool, quiet and shiny!
