Good specs on monitor, also. $237 shipped. Techonweb has a 9.48 ResellerRating... (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2098.html) with 128 ratings...
If this goes through I think I'm going to kick myself for not buying a dozen of them...

This is most likely a price mistake anyways, probably won't go through. Amazon makes mistakes like this all the time. Good luck though. Here's one in the final day of bidding on EBAY for ~$150.

:mad4:
I just ordered one for myself too. Too good to be true though.
By the way, why is techonweb (TX) charging me salex tax? I am in California.

i ordered one as well. as far as sales tax in cali...if there's a warehouse or it's being shipped from cali, then they're gon' charge us sales tax.

I believe You have the wrong model for that ebay auction. The one in the deal is the VG800, not the va800. Here is one that closed on the 3rd for over $500.00- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3409634658&category=29503

What a crazy amazing deal! This one is sweet. I just order 4 of them. Both my computers are getting two new 18 inch flats screens and it only cost me a grand. This really seems too good to be true. Has anyone ever shopped with this company? Good luck to all of you. I hope you get in on this too. Let's all keep our fingers crossed. I also didn't see anything about it being a refurb. It better be new or else there will probably be some trouble.:hmm:

I ordered two, and both my roomies ordered two as well. Wow...I hope this is for reals...and if it is we all owe wungism a big THANKS!

Yeah, huge thanks to wungism. I think the shipping on these things is less than 7 days. It will be coming fedex or ups ground it says. So I would expect them to arrive end of this week or early next week. I'm so excited about this. I'm like a little kid on christmas morning. Thanks again wungism for reviving the kid in me!

I decided to get two also. I already have two of the Dell 1800FP monitors. I'll probably put both of them on my main computer. I'll give one the of VG800s to my son and the other to my Dad.
I wonder if these online companies do these pricing-mistakes and not honor it on purpose just to get free publicity . . .
i hope they won't screw us over . . . so don't thank me till we get our monitors in perfect condition. (though i do appreciate it . . .)
here's what i found on techonweb.com:
TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS
Techonweb has made every effort to ensure the accuracy of the product information and description. In the event a product is listed at an incorrect price due to typographical, photographic or technical error, Techonweb shall have the right to refuse or cancel any orders placed for products listed at the incorrect price. Techonweb shall have the right to refuse or cancel any such orders whether or not the order has been confirmed and your credit card charged. If your credit card has already been charged for the purchase and your order is cancelled, Techonweb shall immediately issue a credit to your credit card account in the amount of the incorrect price.
hearing about how expensive LCD monitors are to make, i'm pretty sure it's a pricing mistake . . .
if they lose just $100 per monitor, and if 10k monitors were bought, that's one meeeellion dollars lost . . . sucks . . .
Pricewatch.com reflects the price posted on the vendor's website. It also states it's "FACOTRY NEW FACTORY SEALED", which means that we'll get the full 3 year manufacturer's warranty. Let's just hope that it's not a price mistake.

Ok, when a deal is 'this good' why do people consistantly have to buy more THAN 1. Just buy 1. Stop being greedy jerks!
shabubu
04-06-2003, 09:52 AM
I totally agree with djdreidel.....why don't we just call the company directly and tell them about the pricing error??? That's what happens when someone order 4 at a time.....
Once again, pricewatch does NOT automatically update prices. the company itself has to manually update their prices on Pricewatch, which is why i'm not that worried about it being cancelled. if it is cancelled, then c'est la vie.

Slipping in a 2 for a 5 or vice versa is a very common typographical error. We see it all the time where I work. Same with 6 for 9, I guess sometimes our noggins don't work exactly like we need them.. :)

Kinda harsh, I think, the reaction of some people to a simple pricing mistake...I would have been extremely happy to get a deal like this, but I'm not going to act like they did something intentionally misleading. Maybe they could have handled it a little differently, or tried to appease people by at least offering a token discount or GC to those who had orders cancelled, but it's not like they were OBLIGATED to do so. All the reviews prior to today were outstanding.

I agree. That really sucks that some little mistake had to put such a big dent in their company's reputation. I won't leave any bad reviews. Simply none at all.

i also agree. Again, if they just lose $100 per monitor sold at $216, they would lose $1,000,000.00 if only 10,000 monitors were ordered. Not even Amazon.com can sustain that.
However, I think these online vendors need to be more responsible in creating their web applications. They should have some sort of internal app that flags them if a sale price is a certain percentage lower than the MSRP. Also, Their app shouldn't allow their customers to order more than what they have in their inventory.

If people didn't order 4 of everything like this to sell on Ebay, maybe the mistake wouldn't be corrected so quickly! It is funny how there were about 10 Ebay auctions that ended abruptly yesterday after the deal died.
I don't know how you could make it work...but I always understood (as a former retail store manager) that after something was paid for (charged) that the sale was final and the vendor could not say ..."OOPS". It would be one thing if they didn't charge your card, but since they did.....I dunno. Just a thought.
Imagine going into Macy's, buying something on sale, getting your receipt, then the dept manager running over...."oh, I'm sorry...that was priced incorrectly..."
i certainly didn't leave bad feedback

Come on....Let's give them a break!!!
Let's face it, we tried to cash in on their mistake....Bummer that they caught it but if it was your company and you stood to take that severe of a financial loss, you would have cancelled all of the orders too....
Also keep in mind that if it was a simple mistake that was never posted to a message board, they may have only had a couple of orders to deal with and not the hundreds or more that came out of this thread....
So...we'll wait for the next mistake and try to score there....
Shame on those who ordered multiple units....

It's a small token, but an apology worth, I think about $15 to $20, here is the email I got...
Dear Customer,
We at TECHONWEB would like to extend our sincere apologies for the typographical mistake that was made last Saturday,
April 5th. The price of $216.00 for the Viewsonic VG800 was published in error but the necessary correction was made
within 24 hours. This type of blunder is absolutely atypical of the quality our customers expect from us and we truly
apologize for the frustration and inconvenience you have experienced as a result. As you know from our policies
and warranties disclaimer, we are not legally obligated to compensate for such typographical errors.
However, as a gesture of goodwill, TECHONWEB would like to offer one of the following three options to you.
The Viewsonic VG800 at a DELIVERED price of $517.00 (4% off the current advertised price).
-- OR --
A coupon for $5.00 off any order (EXCEPT the Viewsonic VG800 or Proview PL866) made within April 2003.
Coupon Codes will be sent out beginning 4/10/03.

The Proview PL866s (an 18" LCD panel) at a DELIVERED price of $447.00 (get more info regarding

We truly appreciate your continued business and sincerely apologize for our error.

Because of all the negative feedback technoweb has received as a result of this monitor error, resellerratings.com has removed all the feedback from their site in conjunction with the monitor situation. they even have a note posted to the technoweb account stating that their was a price mistake, etc... Very interesting....
I don't want to sound like a jerk, but here's where I have problem.
They made a mistake (honest or otherwise), and as with anything else in life, there will be a consequence of it. It's especailly true if you are running a business.
Giving them the idea that just sending an appology letter is all the cost of their mistake, then there will be more businesses that make more careless "mistakes" accidentally or otherwise.
I was seriously looking for a monitor over the weekend and instead of picking up the Dell or other deals, I went with this monitor. So indirectly or not, there was an opportunity cost to me, and all I get from TECHONWEB is one paragraph canned appology email.
Is it fair to them that I leave a neutral or negative ration on the web? I believe so as long as I describe what happened with the deal. Potential customers can take a look at my comment and determine for themselves whether they want to overlook it or not.
shabubu
04-10-2003, 05:43 AM
OK Dave....Knock yourself out and leave that negative feedback...Feedback is just someone's opinion, so if your opinion is negative regarding them, it's fair to say so....
But, if you are really looking for a deal on a monitor, your time would be better spent looking than complaining about a dead issue...
And if you did research pricing on these types of monitors, since you were in the market for one, you would have known that this price was way out of normal pricing and should have prepared yourself for the devestating news of the order being cancelled....
Time to move on....Deal with the next problem....
This is not the first pricing error that was corrected with the orders being cancelled....I'm sure it's not the last one either....Just look at Amazon.com
