Premiere was unable to connect to the native Microsoft(TM)DV support on this machine. This setting was designed to only work w/ an OHCI IEEE1294 card w/ an approved Microsoft DV driver.

that's the message I'm getting when i open up adobe premiere 6.5 w/ a Sony TRV-17 minidv camera...

I'm running a SHUTTLE XPC...

nForce2 Chipset... (onboard firwire)

Can anyone help me get rid of this message?

Thanks

um, do what the error message tells you to do. uninstall the hardware altogether. then install new hardware and make sure you choose the Microsoft Drivers for the Firewire card or it won't work.

The problem could be your firewire card. Looks like its either not OHCI compatible or is not installed properly.

It's an onboard Firewire device. It comes w/ the nForce2 chipset... and yes I did do what they told me to do exactly. The problem occurs whether or not I have a device plugged in. I'm assuming the card if functional because I have no problems using my firewire HDD's. I looked at the drivers for the Card and it says it's OHCI...

Shrug... SOMEONE HELP!!!

but which drivers are you installing, the ones that came with yer motherboard manufacturer or the lousy windows drivers?

if you've tried both, maybe there's an upgrade from your mobo manufacturer.

now i'm lost :/

I'm not sure if they even use their own drivers... I think it just uses the firewire drivers from Microsoft. Considering that it is onboard 1394. The thing is... EVERYTHING else works fine. Any other software using the firewire card works perfectly. I just get that message in Premiere 6.5. Heck.. even crappy windows movie maker doesn't give me problems.

In premiere it works fine.. I can capture and there's not dropped frames but in the preview window, it looks all pixellated. But if I just look at the raw footage from windows media player it's fine. So playback is what's choppy. I mean.. it's a minor problem, I can still get the job done, but I just wish I could get rid of that message.

I've officially given up on this problem.

Sorry, man. I have never had problems with both of my firewire cards (one on my audigy and another on a dedicated board). Your error does appear to be a driver/WinXP problem. Good luck.

Out of curiosity, when you go to Control Panel -> System Properties -> Hardware -> Device Mananger you should see a listing for IEEE 1394 Bus Controllers. If you click on the [+] next to it, you should see OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller.

If so, right-click on that and choose Properties and then click on the Driver tab.

What does it show you for the driver Provider, Date, Version, and Signer?

Just out of curiosity. . . is that a real version of premiere you actually purchased or a sea-worthy version . . . hehe. 'Cause I've heard lots of people having problems with the later.

You know what... I'm not too sure... I was running a fishy version before.. but then I could have sworn I installed a "legit" copy.

which reminds me... the pinnacle DV500 system... that thing costs a pretty penny for poor college students... If I can just buy the capture card and the breakout box barebone.... does that include the same transitions 'n stuff realtime as the DV500?

It depends on the package. The realtime transitions and other goodies in the package are software. I would recommend getting the retail package since it even gives you a copy of premiere which all combined is actually a great bargain.

About your other problem. . . if you're not even sure its legit. . . I highly bet its a problem with the software and not your hardware.

If the realtime transitions are software... then why does one even need to get a DV500... why not just run the software w/ an ATI All-in-Wonder card w/ a breakout box?

and these realtime transitions.. aren't they within Premiere?

because the software realtime transiions are sort of psudo in premiere. You have to hold the alt key and scrub across the transition to see it before actually rendering it. The DV500 or other similar cards give actual realtime transitions and of course this saves you a lot of time for rendering.
