s7bp: you are booting from the WD drive?

Hang 10 Wannabe: problem is, that i cant access the My Documents and Settings (Alex) in the WD b/c when i had it as my only hd i put a pword on windows

Hang 10 Wannabe: no im booting from a 40 gig MAxtor

I'm assuming you're talking about Windows XP file permissions.

As long as the drive is set up as a second hard drive and you are now booting off a new drive that you're an administrator on, do the following:

- Right click on the drive, click Security Tab, then click the ADvanced button.

- Click on the Owner tab. You'll see two boxes. One says Current owner of this item. The other says change owner to: and lists the accounts on your machine. Pick one of the accounts and select it.

- Check the box that says "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects"

You may get some warnings etc, but just OK your way through them.

Once this is done, you may need to reset security on the files. In that case, go to the permissions tab and add your account with full control permissions. Then choose apply to all folders etc...

Isn't there also a way if it's a FAT32 drive? Boot to dos and delete the contents of one directory? I think I remember someone saying that here one time.

No go for that option if it's NTFS.

Anyone remember that?
