Not so much of a hot deal, but a heads-up for those looking for last minute gifts for this weekend’s holiday. This Japanese anime film won over big budget films such as Ice Age, Lilo & Stitch, Treasure Planet, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
BestBuy has it for Pre-Order on DVD for $17.99 with free shipping. Hopefully their in-store price will be the same when it’s released on Tuesday, 04/15/03. It's the best price I've found so far. Posting of any better prices is appreciated. We can always use a price match.

Agreed... it brings back the originality in animation. Not to mention it's very "eastern" in folklore and culture.

BestBuy’s print ad also has a deal if you buy “Spirited Away”, “Castle in the Sky” and “Kiki's Delivery Service” all on the SAME receipt, you get “Princess Mononoke” for free. I might buy them all and if the kids like “Spirited Away”, I’ll keep the other three. If not, I’ll return the other two plus the freebie. And I just HATE returning freebies!!!!
Castle in the Sky (Reg. $22.99, Sale $19.99) (http://www.bestbuy.com/movies/productInfo.asp?m=270&e=11207697)
Kiki's Delivery Service (Reg. $22.99, Sale $19.99) (http://www.bestbuy.com/movies/productInfo.asp?m=270&e=11207698)
Princess Mononoke ($22.99) for free by buying the other three (http://www.bestbuy.com/movies/productInfo.asp?m=270&e=11012428)
Can you say "Christmas in the Spring?".

I know you should all have your taxes done by now, but don’t throw away that TaxCut software box just yet. (Maybe you got in on the “MS Money, TaxCut and Norton Firewall for $20 profit “ deal in early to mid January?) One of the coupons in the TaxCut box is “save $4 on the combined purchase of any 2 DVD’s regularly priced at $14.99 and up when you pay with your Visa card” at BestBuy. In-store only, through 05/31/03. I know these DVD’s are on sale, but you may get lucky, as I did, and get a price override.
Just got back from lunch. “Spirited Away” $15.99, “Kiki's Delivery Service” $17.99, “Castle in the Sky” $19.99 and “Princess Mononoke” Free at register (had to remind clerk).
Even the Microsoft Optical Mouse $7.99 After Rebate ($24.99 – 17 MIR) from the Got|Apex Deals page rang up at $20.99 with $17 rebate.
I wonder if $2 got taken off of each of the first two movies automatically, and then was mistakenly overridden to reduce the mouse price? Did you all get the movies for the same price? Anyhow… use it if you got it.

PiteViper,
I agree with you all the way! In fact, I download this anime from Kazaa. I watched and like it so much that I will buy this in DVD from Bestbuy today.
I also purchased “Princess Mononoke” about two year ago and I love this anmie too. But to compare the two, I think I love “Spirited Away” a bit more. Both great, I recommend to any who have kids too!

I just purchased the Anime and it's great movie! If you got the two disc version, don't forget to watch the second disc about the making of the Movie. I think it's call, "Nippon TV Special".
After watch that, I really appreciated the creators of this movie and all anime artist. They spend hours to meet their deadline by stay late each night and stuff.
They also have on the second disc a storyboard with voice and sound to viewing. Which I though was pretty cool.
Enjoy the movie!

And I just HATE returning freebies!!!!don't worry... i'm a big fan of hayao miyazaki, and i think your kids will definitely like Spirited Away. They should also like Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky, but i think Princess Mononoke might be a bit over their heads, depending on how old they are. and if they like those, they should also check out My Neighbor Totoro as well...
btw, thanks for the heads up on the deal for Spirited Away. I had this preordered on Amazon, but after seeing the price you listed, i'm gettin it from bestbuy today! :D
EDIT: awwww, the best buy i went to was all out of Spirited Away, and when i asked one of the employees, he said all the Best Buys in the area are out!! ended up purchasing it online, and with no shipping fees it came out to just less than $20. still not bad.
As an Anime Fan I saw this advertised when it came out, but ignored it. Ugg! I assumed it was like Castle in the Sky which was way too geared for little kids. But I got this movie yesterday and was blown away!!!
Has to be my favorite Anime of all time. Tremendous!! w00t! Thanks
I forgot to add, Though it may be ok for kids in general, It's NO good for my 4 year old. And younger kids in general.
I put the movie in and went downstairs, 10 minutes later I returned to find my 4 year old very scared....very very scared. Parents beware. heh
