Mad Dog Multimedia's Entertainer 16X DVD also functions as a 48X CD-ROM. Comes with two year warranty. Rebate requires on-line drive registration. Buyers at other forums report that this is a rebadged Artec Model DHM-G48 drive (which sells for $33 at googlegear.com).

Reg: $59.99, Sale: $49.99 - 30 MIR = $19.99

How reliable is mad dog drive? I've heard quite a few bad feedbacks on the other forums.

I’m not sure. It looks like Artec only makes two DVD-ROM models. I could only find a review on the other model. I can’t imagine the two drives being too different. If they’re the new kid on the block, they probably don’t have much of a track record either way. But it does have a two-year warranty. In most cases, if you want top-of-the line performance, you’ve got to pay top-of-the line prices. Probably a good deal for the price. I recently purchased the $9.99 (after rebate) EPO 16x DVD-ROM and it works fine for everyday use.

Good review of the other Artec DVD-ROM. (http://www.storagereview.com/welcome.pl/http://www.storagereview.com/articles/200104/20010411DHI-G40_1.html)
