View Full Version : XP won't restore from hybernate anymore

I used to occasionally find it convenient to put my XP machine in hybernate so I could continue from where I was the next day, however now upon restore the next day the computer simply sits with a flashing cursor, unresponsive. Does anyone know a simple fix for this? A temp file to delete, or a corrupt file to replace?

I do not recall any hardware or software differences between when it worked and when it didn't. The only significant change I make is that I keep up with windows update religiously (I realize MSFT code is likely my problem).

Thanks in advance for any help.

What's the event ID and source?

ah, I have more carefully diagnosed the event log, and this is the only event that is thrown, not the one I mention above (event id 36, from source W32Time):

The time service has not been able to synchronize the system time for 49152 seconds because none of the time providers has been able to provide a usable time stamp. The system clock is unsynchronized.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

here is someone with the same problem, however, they didnt seem to address the cause of the restore from hibernation failure, the time setting:

I don't think the time setting is related to your hibernation issue. The time deal simply means that your workstation can't find a time server to sync up with. You can pretty much ignore that error.

The hibernate issue was discussed and appears to be a corrupt snapshot of the system before it went into hibernation:

So is your machine OK now?

<<Bob,

I had the same problem and found this:

Windows XP Stops Responding at the Welcome Screen

When you restart Windows XP and the Welcome screen is displayed, your
computer may stop responding: neither the keyboard nor the mouse work.
When you restart your computer again using the F8 key, you may receive
the following error message:

System restart has been paused:

Continue with system restart.

Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu.

This problem can occur when your computer enters into the Hibernate mode
and accesses a corrupted memory snapshot.

To resolve this problem, select the "Delete restoration data and proceed
to system boot menu" option which enables the computer to perform a
normal restart, instead of performing the restoration process while the
computer is in Hibernate mode.>>

I get the message about deleting the image, and continuing, and that works fine. However, the hibernate consistently fails in this fashion, and I miss having that functionality. It seems that there is no relevant information in the event log. I am not able to find much relevant in google or msft site. Maybe someone else is having this experience? I have been going through my services and disabling the ones that I am certain that I dont need. Suppose it is getting to be time to reinstall an OS anyhow. Is there a new windows coming out soon, worth waiting for?
