View Full Version : good video card for video out

well I got a new computer, so I have my old one hooked up to my tv and all that. currently I have a Hercules 3d Prophet II GF2 64mb card with tv out, but it doesn't look that great, 800x600 I believe.
I would like something that looks really good so I can actually watch things on my tv.
Anyone got any suggestions for a good video out card, I don't really need it for gaming or anything else anymore.

ATi cards have always been known for their good tv-out. The Radeon 8500s and above can handle resolutions up to 1024x768. Don't expect miracles though. A TV is very blurry, it was not designed to be used as a computer moniter. If it's just used to watch movies, show pictures or play games from your computer the ATi cards work great. If you have an HDTV than you can get an HDTV adapter for the Radeon 8500/9500/9700 series. That costs $29. Here's the FAQ for it.

yeah I was thinking probably an older radeon. I got a radeon 9700 pro in the new machine, but it is in a different room.
Basically I want to be able to watch episodes of shows I download and MLB games that I watch with MLB.tv
