For gear and anyone else that plays/played CCGs...

What was/is your favorite?

I've played a number of them, but the only one I got really into was Startrek.

My friends and I (at college) didn't have a lot of money, so we had at most 10-15 rares in a 60 card deck.

We also designed a set of rules to make a 2-dimension spaceline (4x6, 6x6, etc.) which was A LOT of fun. We mailed our rules to Decipher, but never heard anything about it.

When we came home for the summer, our younger friends (still in high school) that had more money (and virtually no cost of living expenses) had almost the entire set of cards (including every artifact). That killed it for us.

I played a little bit of Star Wars but didn't really get into it much.

Most of my buds here in MN don't play so it makes it hard to really get into a CCG.

What's a CCG?

Is that like card-based games? If so, I played Illuminati, Magic, and had a few others.

I'd say I liked Magic, but there were far too many editions. It was a costly addiction. I spent over $700 in the span of a couple months when I was a freshman in HS. I still have most of the cards. Had a bit stolen too! bastards!

CCG = Collectible Card Games

Magic is one, considered the one that brought CCGs into its glory days.

I started with Magic, playing up to Ice Age. I'm appalled at how many expansions Magic has. They have added some cool new abilities, but there's just way too many cards to care.

I jumped to Star Wars when it first game out. Now that was a fun game. I stopped after a while since I thought it got too complex.

I then played Babylon 5. It was the best game ever made. Complex, requiring interaction and cooperation, it was a joy to play. I actually became a ranger, though I wasn't real good at it. Actually made it to the Regional finals and placed 3rd or 4th.

I started Star Trek CCG, and played a little of it for about a year or two. Now I just collect the cards for fun, though I'm a bit slow at it.

Along the way, I've dabbled in Overpower, X-Files, Pokemon, Young Jedi, and maybe a couple more. I REALLY don't want to know how much money I blew on cards.

I actually had a lot of fun with StarTrek on a limitted budget, as long as all the guys in my group spent about the same $$. We managed to stay about the same because we wll went out and bought cards together. Ah...college...(Those were good days.)

I still have a bunch of them, I stopped buying when I couldn't keep up with all the freaks at tournaments and stuff, I got whooped by this 'lil kid who had all the Reflections characters and mains. But its still fun, and I won an DVDLOTS Japanese foil at that tournamnent :).

Now Decipher lost the license for Star Wars, dont' think I'll be playing the new version.

I played Magic professionally when I was in high school. My career earnings were something like $2000. Prolly didnt cover my ivestment but it was fun while it lasted.

When I got to college I stopped playing Magic because I didnt want to be competitive anymore and I cant play "for fun." I picked up Star Wars which I became quite good at, and when Decipher was forced to stop making the game I'd say I was at top 100 in the world level.

I havent touched a card game in over year now that Decipher stopped making Star Wars. I'd love to play Warhammer 40,000 (minitures, not cards) but there is no one to play around here in close drivign distance.
