I'm having a bit of a problem. I am not able to load windows XP on a computer I'm working on. I formetted the HD, which before had WinXP installed on it fine. I put in a GF2, Epox EP-8kHA, and AMD 1.0 gHz. I cannot get past the "Setup is starting Windows" screen. I have checked for compatability issues, nothing bad is there. Any clue why this is?

I don't think it is the RAM. I personally think it's the bios on the MB. I am updating it as I type, so we'll see if it gets past that stupid screen this time.

...I've never heard of anyone needing to update their bios to install an OS...

Hey I got the same problem but I got an old motherboard. 7kxa from back in the early Athlon days. Hmm...I'll have to update the BIOS and see if that works.

yepers, it was the bios update that did the trick. Then I tried the file and settings transfer wizard and it worked pretty well.

I've never bothered with the file and settings transfer wizard. Did you find that it brough a lot of junk over, or was it pretty clean... More importantly, was it too clean and missed your stuff?

I'm actually not quite sure yet. I was looking through some of the files versus the old computer and it actually seemed pretty random for some programs. Then again, there was a short list that it popped up that said some programs should be installed prior to transfer, but I didn't care about any of them. I remember Sonique and WS_FTP were on there. It did move everything corectly for Outlook express and I.E. I am familiar with how games have their saved files, and while the transfer wizard didn't list those games as being installed, there were folders for them, but again, seemed kinda random.

The transfer was fast though, less than 5 minutes for ~3 gigs of data. The time-consuming part was saving the "backup" on the old comptuer, which is kinda slow, but took maybe 30 minutes.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to try it out. I have a new machine that I haven't unboxed yet cuz I'm not looking forward to coping all of my stuff over...
