View Full Version : Teen blinded when frog shot from potato gun
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/bizarre/1870788
DALLAS - A teenager was blinded after being struck in the face with a frog shot from a so-called "potato gun."
Daniel Benjamin Berry, 17, received the injury after he looked down the barrel of the gun's PVC pipe barrel and was hit in the face by the frog.
"He is going to be blind in both eyes," Daniel's mother, Lisa Berry, said.
Potato guns are made of pipe with one end sealed. A potato is wedged into the open end and a flammable liquid put into a sealed chamber is ignited, launching the object.
Denton County Sheriff's Department spokesman Kevin Patton said the accident occurred about 1 a.m. Sunday when Daniel Berry joined a crowed of teenagers watching the gun be fired.
When it misfired, Daniel Berry looked down the barrel to see what was wrong when the gun went off, Patton said.
"He said it just went off. It was a misfire. It hit him square in the face," Lisa Berry said, adding that her son had broken bones in his face that would require surgery.
Patton said no charges would be filed.
"This is the first incident involving a potato gun that we have had to deal with," he said. "What are you going to do? This was an accident."
Lisa Berry said the accident ruined her son's career dreams.
"All he ever wanted to do was be an Air Force pilot," she said. "That isn't going to happen now."

I have a potato gun and I can safely say I wouldnt ever do anythign as inhumane as shooting a living creature out of it. I'm glad that genetic dead end is blind. Maybe when he tells females the wonderful story of how he became blind he wont get a chance to breed and do us all a big favor.

Idiots like that don't deserve to be fighter pilots. Good thing the frog took care of that.

Another tragedy that could have been avoided by the implementation of a mandatory 7 day waiting period for potato cannon purchases...
Tragic, yet :heh: .
Too bad it wasn't aimed about waist-high...then he could be out of the gene pool and still be able to see...

When I hear that, I think about the scene from spaceballs when they are in the diner and the alien comes out of the guy's stomach. And is the alien dances away, you can see the stick that's attached to it that's moving it.

I would personaly like to take this oppertunity to thank the frog that gave its life so that this idiot would not be flying over our heads with a dozen 1/2 ton bombs...
Looking down the barrel of a misfired cannon... Participating in putting a frog in the cannon in the first place... It is a real shame that his parents ever breed in the first place. We can only hope he never gets the chance. :(

maybe i'm ruining the fun here, but where'd you get this story from, sbp? doesn't it smell reaaaaal fake to anyone else? what with the awkward wording, the grammatical mistakes, and the overly punchline-esque last quote and all...
it's either that, or the publication reporting the incident isn't a stickler for details...
EDIT: nevermind... didn't notice the link above the story... man, you'd think they could hire better writers, or at least, better copy editors...

Why don't you try it and let us know. As long as you don't need your eyes to read this board then you should be fine.

If it wasn't a potato gun, it would have been an M-16 when the doofus was in basic training for the Air Force.
