No jokes please.
My mom is a realtor and she's convinced that spam is the way to go to advertise herself. She says she talked to a lot of people in the business (realty I guess) and they all say it's the greatest way for advertisement. They've gotten a lot of business and it's cheap.
Needless to say, I need to change her mind. I've tried warning her that spam is, well, bad and that there are people out there who hunt down spammers. But she says everyone does it and they all say it works great.
Can you guys give me links or articles about how spam doesn't work and it's a very, very bad idea? I'll pass them along and hopefully convince her these people are fools and liers.
Thanks!

Actually, that's part of the problem. Spam DOES work. Of course that doesn't mean it's not a very, very bad idea because it is.
If Spam didn't work, there wouldn't be spammers.

Sorry about your mom, man. She has turned to the dark side.
Yes, spam works. It is a sad fact of life. It's cheap and effective. That's why there are people who hunt down spammers - because they can't make them stop by presenting a reasonable argument against spam.
If I ever got spam from your mom, it would be an iron-clad guarantee that neither I, nor anyone I know, would ever use her services.
Maybe telling her that would convince her.

Uhm, maybe you could spam her like that one dude in Michigan to drive home a point.
Oh man, I'd have to break my dad's computers if he ever did that.

Well, there is a law in draft where spammers have to have a working return address and that they can be sued for each piece of spam.

If she does spam she needs to put ADV as the title of it or she can be sued or thrown in jail. Isn't that a law yet or work in progress? There's was news clip last week I think where this lady sent out spam the brought down her ISP servers. She sent out like 60K. She's under arrest or something.

I have to wonder about people who ignore the argument that it is moraly reprehensible. Just because it is legal they think that it is acceptable. How about if we all call you mom at 2 or 3 am in the morning and ask how she is doing? We could all do it once, a different person each nite. Or better yet a different person each hour for a week. Legal, but impolite...

Here's an article (http://money.cnn.com/2003/04/15/technology/aol_spam.reut/index.htm) you can show your mom about AOL suing spammers...
