Ok my old HP Laserjet 1100 printer just gave up.
Time for a new b/w laser printer. Its for personal use. Just the printer I dont need an all-in-one. USB would be nice.
Looking to spend less than 300.00
Would like to hear any recommendation or warnings :)
TIA

Amazon has it for 215.94
Samsung ML1430 15ppm 600x600
8mb is standard and is the max :(
Amazon 149.94 after 30mir :)
HP Laserjet 1000 10ppm 600x600

I'm using Minolta 1250W and got it for around $60 from Staples before. Print fast and no problem about it at all.

Checked out the Minolta 1250W.
8mb max ram, no onboard processor and windows based. Other than those points seems to get good reviews.
Deciding to get the Brother HL 1440 from Office Depot
228.52 - 10% coupon they emailed me total less tax is 205.67
Could have got it at Office Max with Apex coupon 30.00 off but Office Depot offers in store pickup and I can have it sooner, the $5.69 more is worth having it now :) Shipping is not an issue both offer free shipping.
PS I have the 32mb 72 pin simm that will work in this printer already so that also is swaying me in that direction.

yeah. if you want to print at max res, you need that RAM. i just have the 2MB and it turned out like junk. haha. waste of ink.

Wow.. I didn't know that the memory in Laser printers determines the quality. I thought memory in all printers (or at least adding more) would be determined by how much traffic you have feeding the printer.

Well yes and no :)
You need the larger buffer to print in higher resolutions.
At lower resolutions more ram speeds up the spooling.
Doesnt matter much when printing text but try a pdf file you'll see the difference.

I would go with the Samsung.

I bought this printer for my lab last summer, and with 100+ people printing data, I expected it to run out of toner long ago...and it's still going strong! I am amazed by this printer. I'm thinking of getting one for my personal use.
It's a 1200x1200 dpi laser and has a really small footprint. With coupon you should be able to get this for less than $160.

Me, I'm an HP kinda guy.
I bought the HP lasterjet 1200 for a client for $299 from Dell on sale (right now they have %10 + %15 stackable) and it's a handy little machine with a very small footprint.

Purchased the Brother HL 1440 from Office Depot
228.52 - 10% coupon they emailed me total less tax is 205.67
Setup was simple. Using the parallel port cause I had the cable and no need to spend more on a usb cable :)
Upgraded the ram with a 32mb 72pin simm that I had from an old pc.
Love the fact that they actually included that little feature and was what made me decide to go with the brother.
Works great.

The Brother HL 1440 just got sweeter. Officemax has it for 179.99
I called Office Depot and they price matched it.
It only cost me 157.38 :D
I love my laser printer. :) It's my second one. It's amazing how cheap they've gotten relative to their pricepoint about a year or two ago.

You really can't beat them for everyday printing. I got the HP 1200 for $199, and it's worth every penny. Just replaced my Epson ActionLaser 1500 from 8 years ago, which, I might add, had the same toner cartridge for all 8 years. Try getting 8 years out of an inkjet cartridge!
OK, I only printed about 7500 pages in 8 years, but cost per page is still a hell of a lot lower than my inkjet...
