I was figuring out the cost of components for a home built unit similar to the one on the deals page today. With the CDRW drive, it would probably cost at least $475. With the DVDRW, probably around $600.
If I needed a fast computer, I would definitely jump on this deal.

Yeah great deal, but dont count on that rebate, i have had nothing but trouble with those people at rebatestateus.com. The likelyhood of you ever receiving your rebate is slim to none.

I got my 4550 (2.66/60GB/128MB/48X with 65MB ATI R9000Pro AIW) from Dell deal 2 weeks ago ($100 MIR, $100 instant, and 15% off). I paid $467 after MIR and tax for it but I don't get the free DVD or CD-RW and extra RAM though.

Oh stop it! Maybe you've had issues with them, but if it was a wide spread problem, everyone would be complaining!

I have sent in over 25 rebates to Dell and the rebatestatus.com folks. Some come fast, some come slow, but they ALWAYS come.

Hopefully you'll have better luck in the future, but your bad experience doesn't mean it's everyones experience.

If you think you've been scammed, contact your State Attorney General's office. Rebate scams are a crime prosecuted by them.

It's a kick ass deal since I paid the same for the 2350 or whatever WITHOUT an AGP slot and cd burner. Of course no rebates to mess with but I send in rebates a lot and always get them. Of course I dunno about DELL.

Sigh. Can't play games without AGP slot and I don't want to pony up for a PCI video card.

I had a couple of dual cpu motherboards without AGP so I picked up a couple of PCI GeForce 440se cards for $29 and $50. I believe the difference was SDRAM vs DDR. Not too bad for alot of games.

I have have sent off about 25 to 50 rebates, and had about 65% come back. I buy about 30 pcs a year, and 4 to 10 servers for the company i work for. sigh....

This is one of the fastest i have ever received (almost 3 months), I have also call them and the told me that there are only a certain amount of rebates that get sent out. Kinda first come first serve basis. A certain number that have been pre-determined and after that number is out they dont send anymore.

isnt that illegal ? If they advertise it they have to honor it, no matter how many are filled.. I really dont like rebates much and prefer to stay away from them just for this reason

Get them to send you that in writing. That is completely illegal and having it in writing would assure you a healthy settlement suit.

Staples is the BEST for rebates hands down!

BUT - Dell did get me my $50 for the Axim - FINALLY. Only took them like 3 months, but they did give it to me.

When it says wait 6-8 weeks for delivery, it'll be at your house on day 56

but it'll show up, so if you're thinking of not doing the deal because the rebate won't show up, well...just STOP IT! lol

i have a question: the mail in rebate says it expires 4/30, but on the form it says the rebate must be postmarked 30 days after receiving the computer. whats the deal? can i send the rebate in after the 30th? thanks for your help

I think the 4/30 date is the last purchase date to qualify for the rebate.

I've been thinking about getting a better system for my kids, and this deal pushed me over the edge. The one I ordered ended up costing $422 (after tax and rebate). I upgraded the video card and a couple of small things. I opted for the DVD drive, since I can swap the 48x24x48 CD burner that's in their current computer into this one. One thing that's nice about these Dell cases is that they are easy to work with.

yeah ive got a 1.4 ghz dell and i love it. the quiet hard drive and easy off case are wonderful. dell is good.. *pets tower softly, look of contentment eases onto face*. by the way, i just ordered the 2.5. MUHAHAHAHAHAHA
