I am taking Amoxicillin for a sinus infection and I was wondering if you are not supposed to drink alcohol while taking antibiotics? I am going to a concert tonight so I figured I should know that before I kill my liver or something.
Thanks! Have a great Friday everyone.

I believe it will make the antibiotic ineffective.
BTW, I get a lot of sinus infections. Did the doctor also prescribe something to drain your sinuses, like Guaifenex?
When I have the first sign of clogged sinuses, I take it. Within a few days, they start to drain and then I don't have to take any antibiotics.

Funny thing is that I just got some stuff from the doctor two days ago,and asked him the same question.
Basically what he said what that there were really no "drug-interaction" type of things that go on with alcholol and antibiotics. Basically (and since I don't remember I'm just giving the jist of it here) he said that the anitbiotics go into your kidneys a lot. Since alcohol is a diuretic (sp?), it makes you pee a lot. Therefore, you basically pee all of the medicine out, making it not work.
Anyway, that's what he told me, so take it for what it's worth (yes, I know there's about a billion spelling errors here!)

the combination won't hurt your liver like regularly drinking 3+ alcoholic bevs/day and taking tylenol can.
you lose out on some of the antibiotics effectiveness because of the above forementioned reason, but wtf, i say party on Wayne, party on Garth.
