Please everyone sign the petition. I would appreciate it. What the Turkish government is doign is in flagrant violation of international law and actively trying to destroy the 2nd oldest active institution in the world. If any of you consider yourselves Christian please sign this petition.

So why is the Turkish government tearing it down?

Because they don't want anymore Greeks in Turkey. They don;t want anymore Christians in Turkey, whether they be Armenian or Greek. Their goal is to get the Patriarchate of Constantinople to relocate to Mt. Athos in Greece. This would end 2700 years of Greeks living in Byzantium, and end 1700+ years of the Patriarchate being in Constantinople.

The Patriarchate is the only institution of the Roman Empire left in the world. This is just another episode in the long and often bloody history of the Turks trying to de-Hellenize "their" country.
