Well I've held off for a while now and its time I break down. Gonna be at the Fashion Valley Apple Store this friday to pick one up. The thing I like is they acutally made improvements people asked for, like the biggest thing is to make playlists on the 'pod. Now. . . if only I can somehow convince myself its worth the extra $100 for the 30GB model ;).
An extra $100 for double the capacity? Heck yeah! :D

hehe. . yeah that keeps on getting me. . . but 100 bones is a 100 bones. . .
This is for all you people who bought the old iPODs from Dell. I ordered one over a month ago and it just arrived. I called up Dell to get a RMA number because I want the newer one and they offered me a $60 credit because the price of the old ones went down. I got the iPOD for $409.10 (20GB version), so it goes down to just $349.10. So if you're in the same boat I am, give them a call. =)

ok, so now that you have the new ipod maybe you can answer a question i have. Does it support on-the-fly playlists? That was one of the main reasons i went with the zen over the ipod.
edit, ok, so i read that they did. is it any good? Gimme screenshots! :D

Argh. The only thing holding me back from buying one was the fact that it might not support the songs that are ID'ed in other languages. But man, they have Korean supported and... Oh man, I think I'm going to drive myself crazy before I lose all self control and splurge.
Must...
control...

Damn you Apple!
Damn you Satan!
Stop tempting me!

Ok, did a little research...
Apple still sucks!
They can put all that time and effort into making a good looking player and yet the damn thing still doesn't have a playque! I thought that was what the on-the-go playlist would be but i guess not. What a dissapointment. :disa:
zen: kinda chunky, does EVERYTHING
ipod: lean and very good looking, can't cook or clean
*goes back to enjoying his zen* :D

please inform my ignorant stupid macass. What is a playque. . . do you mean to add a song to a play list while its playing? Because you can do that. The only thing I wish is that you could create more than just the one default playlist in the ipod. I'm guessing they can easily do it in a future software update for it.

taken from ipodlounge:
On-The-Go-Playlist -- a BIG Disappointment!
This is not a playqueue. If you were hoping it was, or if you were thinking it was, it's not.
The new iPods do not have a playqueue. There is still no way to solve the "You know what I'd like to hear after this is done playing?" problem.
There is a big difference between "Now Playing" and the "On The Go Playlist" (OTG). Wrap your mind around this:
Sure, you can browse about on your iPod and add things to OTG. Works great. But remember, it adds it only to the OTG playlist, it does not add anything to Now Playing. So, if you want to queue something to play next, you can add it to OTG if you want, but then you have to go back to OTG and start playing it again.
See, when you start playing any playlist, even OTG, the iPod's operating system takes the entire contents of that playlist, replaces the contents of "Now Playing" and begins to play it.
Try it out. You'll be upset too. Start playing an album and note that it says "1 of x" where x is the amount of tracks in that album. Let's say for the sake of our example that this album has 12 tracks... your "Now Playing" list will say "1 of 12".
Next, browse about and "queue" something up by holding the center button down until it flashes. Menu all the way up to the main menu and then select "Now Playing" -- it will still say "1 of 12".
Check the OTG next... it's got your queued up song. Play it. "Now Playing" now says "1 of 1" since there was only 1 track in your OTG.
Now go find another song and queue it up too. Surf to your Playlists and the OTG now has 2 tracks in it. But surf to "Now Playing" -- yup... it still says "1 of 1". The song was was only added to the OTG playlist, not to the currently playing list!
So, essentially what we have here, is a playlist that you can build while on the go, but can only use in exactly the way that you're used to using playlists. Play it in its entirety or manually change the music.
APPLE! GIVE US A PLAYQUEUE!! How hard can this be? The ARCHOS mp3 players have one for goodness sake! Don't tell me that the Archos dev crew is more talented than the iPod dev crew?
basically on my zen I have a "now playing" screen. Everytime i play a song/album/playlist it gets added to the list, i can also que songs/albums/playlists to the list so that it can play after the song playing is over. I can at anytime give the "now playing" playlist a name and it'll save it in my playlists. Its just like the winamp playlist.

Ah gotcha. that would be nice. I'm sure they could do something like that in an update only question is if they do.

Few days back apple released an update for the ipod. And guess what, playque now! gotta love how apple sticks with improving their product in a timely matter. They also improved in the update the quality of the sound and encoding effeciency. Also noticed everything is a bit snappier now while I'm browsing my collection or checking my schedule in the calendar section.

I love my free nomad II (with purchase of $50 of mp3's). It has lasted a long time and many falls. It can hold enough for 2-3 cd's which is perfect for a nice 5 mile run.

get yourself a pda. I hope apple never tries to make the ipod anything more than an mp3 player. Everytime people try to cross boundries it always ends up a mess. BTW the ipod DOES have an OS.

Rumor is next major update on the ipod will use OLED which apple also plans on implementing in its notebooks in the near far future. About os, if you're talking about pda type, fat chance really. Steveo and gang have been quite adamant against apple producing a pda, phone or tablet device.

Hey now, the Newton was cool. Just ahead of it's time. Without it, there never would have been a Palm.

hey~~~I got a quick question.
I have a bunch of chinese songs. would the ipod support it? Like can i see the names actually?? That will drive me to buy me one iPOD.
I'm just being stupid: would ipod be something like cellphones like the owners can change the cases for fun. :D

ever look on ebay? the newton, like a majority of apples other old products still fetch a decent price. there are people out there that still swear by the thing. I believe there are some open source products that make it compatible with some of todays systems.
i myself will be aquiring an emate, which was based of off the newton technology. Its brand new and still in the box. I just have to drive to the other side of the state to get it.

Yep, actually that 2.01 update just fixed the support for language support even better and chinese and korean were the two major fixes. So order one up :P.
About the newtons, problem was the first ones running 1.3 sucked on handwrite recognition, but I have used a 2100 which was running the 2.0 software and hand writting software was quite excellent, even better than those new tablet pcs.

He he he. . . did I mention you probably can expect to see more big upgrades from apple? Just looking at the original, they added the ability to view calendars and also the upgrade to be able to play aac files. Sure other players say they are upgradable, but how many companies actually upgrade them? :D. Perhaps apple will add some more games or something.

Hey spig, do you play the games on the IPOD? That solitaire game is too hard to play.
The 2.0.1 upgrade got rid of all the bugs that I was having with the IPOD connecting with my PC. Now the only thing I really want it to do is have a bookmarking feature. With everything else it does why can't they get it to bookmark unless thay made some deal with Audible.com. Every time I connect it to my PC the autoresume resets and I have to find my place on the audio book I was listening to. Or if I want to listen to music in between listening to a book I have to find my place again. For people that don't know, Audible.com books automatically bookmark on the IPOD.

I never liked solitaire but yes that thing is very cumbersome to play. The parachute and brickout games are fun though. Good for when you got nothing else to do while listening to some tunes. The bookmark thing. . . have no clue since I never tried audible.com I'll look into it and try to find some more info.
