I guess this applies to mostly So Cal people but I guess anyone within a day or two driving distance should read as well.

I have a wonderful girlfriend who works at the Boys and Girls club here in San Diego. Recently one of the volunteers brought a dog in by the name of Max who was chillin at the Humane Society and looking for a home. My girlfriend fell in love with him and has since been trying to find a home for him. Well, she hasn't had any luck and so now I am posting this here because Max is officially on a countdown. This Saturday is when he will be put to sleep.

If you are in need of a dog or just a friend, check him out. He is 3 years old, neutered, and very loving. He is not an aggressive dog at all, and would make a great addition to anyone who has the room in their house and in their heart.

Here is Max:

I love my girlfriend and I will do anything to make her happy. If I could have a dog in my apartment I would take him in but I can't. If you are here in San Diego or LA or anywhere close and are interested in Max, let me know. I will pick him up and drive him to you.

Any questions or inquiries, email me at [email protected]

Thanks.

Has anyone heard of a doggy convoy? I have seen them on Animal Planet. There are societies that rescue certain breeds of dog (like racing greyhounds) and when one of the dogs gets adopted by someone far away, people in these societies volunteer to drive the dog for part of the journey. If there are people SERIOUSLY willing to take max, I'm sure there are enough kindhearted people here on G|A to do something similar, and that way no one person has to do the whole thing and lots of people can help! Just an idea...:)

Hey Esdee, what kind of dog is that?

edit:

I was looking at the picture and I asked my friend "What kind of dog do you think that is?". Then the wise Hang10 behind me said "Well... it looks like a Canine...". Laughter ensued from his stupidity.

It's a German Shephard mix I believe. By the way, I am throwing in a couple of huge bags of dog food in with Max as well.

You know I'm not sure if he is house trained or not. He has been living at the Animal Shelter for atleast 6 months now. Apparently the people there liked him so much that they procrastinated sending him to the Human Society(where he is now) because he was such a great dog. They kept him in hope that someone would pick him up but no luck. Most people who go there want puppies, and although he is a puppy at heart, he got bypassed so many times that they finally had to ship him off.

I am sure that he would be able to be house trained quickly. Ok what the heck, I'm going to throw in a pack of doggie diapers as well! :D

Any hangups with
- kids?
- cats?
- reptiles?
- birds?
- other dogs?
- chainlink fences? (long story)

It would be a plus if he was house trained...

I know zen you're telling me. My girlfriend LOVES this dog and so if he has to go, it is going to be devestating. I have to find a way to save him.

Chrissy, I am not sure if he has any of those hangups but I will tell you, I would be very surprised if he would have any issues. He is a very kind dog and I'm sure he wouldn't hurt a fly. I can't guarantee it, but he just seems like one of those types.

Housetraining should not be a concern - even if the dog needs it, it should usually take only about a week with an adult dog.

The pup lookes like a shepherd/husky mix, they can be very sweet dogs.

EssDee - I'm at work, but I have some resources I can refer you to tonight. I can also help with transport if someone within 5-6 hours of Phoenix can take him.

30lb limit? That's not a limit. Real dogs are are at least twice that. :)

... sorry I'm biased. I'm pro big dogs.

Come on Leon, you're down there in san diego.

Now I would take him, but I dont think my intact male would be thrilled to have another dog in the house. I have a group of people out here who are breeders and owners, so i will see if anyone here knows anyone else. If its a matter of time before someone would be able to pick him up, I might be able to find someplace around here to hold him.

I will talk to my people and post if I find anything out.

I wouldn't mind driving a few hours either, I'm about an hour and a half away from SD. Although, it'd be real nice to have him in a carrier, wouldn't want him to be knocking me around in my 2 door Civic. Looks like a nice dog, but I've had it with domesticating animals at home.

Come on Leon, you're down there in san diego. If a dog can't eat a fair sized cat in one sitting, it doesn't count as a dog.

If I had a dog I would want a shepard or an Akida (sp) but since I can't have one that size I am not going to get one.

So I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that Max found a home! :D The bad news is, it is with someone here in San Diego. I went over to my girlfriends apartment after work to share with her the good news. However when I arrived, she was already happy because she had received an email from one of her friends who said that his friend had gone by and picked up Max today from the shelter.

I spoke to sho.gun last night about what happened and he took it in stride, which doesn't surprise me because he is a super cool dude anyways. I told him that Max was going to send him and his little sister a thank you card for helping him to find a home.

I am still extremely thankful for all the help that I received from sho.gun and the rest of the awesome people who got behind this cause here at G|A. I am very touched by everyone who lent words of encouragement, and I am very glad that it all worked out.

I thank you, my girlfriend thanks you, and Max thanks you!!!! :D :thumb:

Well, that's great for Max! I'm so glad he was saved!

Sho, you still scored big points in my book, I feel bad for your sis, I'm sure she must be dissapointed. :(

It's nice to see that everything turned out good, for Max anyway.

I'm sure there are plenty of other dogs that need a home.
