my aunt email forwarded me this pic so some of you may have already saw it.
i just thought this was an incredible shot.
here is the message with it. don't know if it is credible or not.
This awesome picture was taken with a digital camera in the
Bitterroot National Forest in Montana on August 6, 2000, by a fire
behavior analyst from Fairbanks, Alaska, by the name of John McColgan. Since he was working while he took the picture, he cannot sell or profit from it, so he should at least be recognized as the photographer of this once-in-a-lifetime shot. Please forward this on to your e-mail contacts. Maybe someday it will
get back to him and we can show him that he has indeed been recognized for his efforts!

It looks kind of....fake...but I guess I've never seen a burning mountain from upclose and don't really know how the lighting in that situation would be...

I have trouble believing those deer would be hanging out like that, even in the water. And why couldn't the guy sell the picture just cause he's a worker? I've never heard of such a thing, unless he was a photographer for some publication.

Well, according to the National Interagency Fire Center, it's the real deal... huh, who knew, looks doctored to me too.
Here's what they say about it:
The Elk Bath picture was taken by the Alaskan Type I Incident Management Team on August 6, 2000 on the East Fork of the Bitterroot River on the Sula Complex. This photograph was taken with a digital camera and is not available in high resolution. If you use this photo, please credit the Alaskan Type I Incident Management Team. Photographer: John McColgan, Bureau of Land Management, Alaska Fire Service. Click here to download a large, low resolution ZIP file of this photo (file size: 3.8 M).

definately real, my aunt works for one of those foresty agencies and they all talk about it. Just too bad for the photographer cause he gets squat for it. Great pic

Why the heck is a low-resoultion zip file of that picture 3.8 MB??? And I would think that a large low-resolution image would be a bit of an oxymoron. Too bad that file is offline right now; I'd like to be able to see what the heck they mean.
