need a good cheap digital camcorder!

I'm looking for a cam corder between $300-500. one with at least 20x optical zoom, but 10x is okay if its a nice camera just lacking in zoom. i don't care if it is high8 or minidvd since both formats seem to produce the same image quality. The last thing I think I'll need is for firewire output.

can anyone recommend a good camcorder for me?

my roommate has a canon zr50 that has 20x optical zoom and firewire. he's really happy with it. for what he paid for it last you, you can get a zr65 nowadays after rebates or something. check dell deals that come up.
