I just find it funny that no one would say, "they look like little sluts" if they were girls. No personal attacks intended here, just pointing out a weird gender roles thing in our society.

i'm so happy for you. we're expecting in november and i'm hoping it's twins. my grandmother on my mom's side had twins and my wife's grandmother on her dad's side had them. does that increase the odds?

Gorgeous, both of them. :)

Oh, and to the slut comment, my thought was when someone says about a little girl, "You'll have to beat the boys off with a stick." is similar to the lady-killer comment. Not calling the boys a "male slut" but cute enough to attract the ladies.

Wow, they have their eyes and mouths closed. Cherish that pic! I know once my nephew got used to his new digs neither his mouth nor his eyes would ever close! :D

They're beautiful though.

Canta: when you have daughters, I'll call them sluts if you like!

to answer some of the questions... yes, they are identical... they're easy to tell apart now because their heads got squished differently, but i think they will remain easy to tell apart... leif has a much broader nose and taller dome to his head.

leif was in the hospital for two weeks trying to get the meconium unstuck from his diseased colon and get a definite diagnosis of hirschsprung's disease... he was on a glucose iv, not allowed to eat (because there was nowhere for food to go). it sucked. we spent 2 weeks fighting with nurses to do their goddamned jobs and get him out of there... "intensive care" is a big damned misnomer. it's more like serendipitous care. i won't go into all the details because it will just get me upset again, but there was a whole lot of "okay, next he needs (an xray, an enema, etc)... we'll give it to him as soon a swe can... like maybe tomorrow." then there was a lot of "okay, he needs this... but i can't do it until a doctor orders it... and no, i didn't call a doctor and ask him to order it..." yes, there are good nurses out there, but those people should not be paid as much as mcdonald's staff for as little as they do all day. we calculated that he could have been home 4 days sooner had everyone just done their damned jobs.

anyway, he's home, and three enemas a day keeps him pooping happily until he can get corrective surgery in a few months... and then he'll be as good as new!

identical twins are completely random occurences and do not run in families. non-identical twins is a heritable trait... it has to do with the mom popping out two eggs in one ovulatory cycle instead of just one egg, and the trait is only passed from mother to daughter (or from paternal grandmother to granddaughter.) the father has nothing to do with it (other than getting two sperm to the right place at the right time, of course.)

other risk factors for having fraternal twins: being older, being white or black, fertility treatments (duh) and being tall/large frame.

evilgremlin really likes his baby brothers... likes to help out... but is also incredibly whiney suddenly about odd stuff, probably mostly because we don't get to go hang out at the park or the mall and act like idiots all day... that's the biggest upheaval for him. luckily, the weather is great, and he can spend a lot of time in the backyard with prm, so that helps. and i did get brave and took all three out to the children's play area at barnes and noble yesterday... got lucky, the babies slept for two hours straight, so i didn't have to deal with buttheads getting pissed at me for breastfeeding in public, didn't have to try to change a diaper and keep track of the other two kids at the same time... *shudder*

Kim

I'm sorry you had such crappy nurses...hopefully the team that cares for him after his surgery will be much better.

Let me know if you want me to sign up for diaper/formula coupons and send them to you. I remember how expensive diapers are!
