Hi what does the buffer do on hard drives. You know like 80 gb with 2mb buffer. Thanks

basically, how much information can be transfered at a time. the higher the buffer, the more information can be stored at higher speeds. better response times, etc. etc.

A buffer is a temporary storage place. Imagine it as a shopping cart in a grocery store and you are going food shopping. The products on the shelves are blocks of information. and you cart is the buffer. You need to get the food outside (get the info out from the hard drive to some where else). The bigger the cart you have the less amount of trips you will have to take.

it's a temporary memory (storage) where it holds information, so that it doesn't have to look for the data back in the whole plate of the hard drive searching for the info you want.
