Be prepared.
It's not often that a delicious deal like this comes around... so when it does, be prepared.
For the locals, here's a sweet deal i discovered i little while ago which should still work. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Here's an overview:
There's a concession/vendor which goes around to the local festivals and fairs called Saigon Concessions. The food is excellent and even though the prices are reasonable, it's always nice to get more than you paid for.
They have an item called a combination plate, which consists of: fried rice, an eggroll, and a B.B.Q stick for $7.00. The menu lists the price of the items individually as:

Fried Rice $4.00

Eggroll $1.50

B.B.Q. Stick $3.25

As you can see, with the combination plate you're getting $8.75 worth of food for $7.00!
But i've noticed to help balance the price, the combination plate comes with slightly less rice than you would have received had you just ordered the fried rice by itself.
Here's the deal:
i've discovered a way to pay $7.00 for a combination plate and still receive the same amount of rice as you would had you ordered just rice!
1. When you walk up to the concession, just order the fried rice and one of the other items that comes with the combination plate. You'll get more rice because you're not ordering a combination plate.
2. After they prepare the food, give it to you, and tell you the price, ask them if you can also order the other item that comes with the combination plate, but don't say "combination plate". (i.e. If you ordered rice and an eggroll first, add the B.B.Q. stick later, or vice-versa if you ordered the rice and B.B.Q stick first, order the eggroll later.)
3. Then, while they're preparing the last item, ask them what comes on a combination plate. They'll tell you it what you ordered and thus will only charge you $7.00, even though you'll be getting the $4.00 worth of rice!
Important Note: This won't work if you order the eggroll and B.B.Q stick first because when you ask for the rice, they'll just give you the amount that comes with the combination plate and charge you $7.00.
My friends and i have all tried this and it works! i suggest trying it during the Blueberry festival in Plymouth, IN, although it may work at other festivals too.

P.S. You can never have too much rice. If anyone knows of any other deals like this, please post.

It's a dollar and change's difference ;p If you really need that extra $1.75 badly enough to go through all that trouble, order all the items individually and I'll paypal over $1.75 ;p

Joke or not, please use common sense when posting a comment that may be construed as racist or denegrating to any nationality, even in a offhand joking sort of way. Thank you.

What are you insinuating with your comment about "Combination Plates"? I don't find it amusing. I'm getting this thread closed. Good bye.

Just because I'm Asian doesn't mean THIS Asian will let you step all over him...

Your getting this thread closed when this is your first post? I tried yelling at newbies for posting crap on deals I got yelled at so be quite. You don't have a lot of power here so shut up. as for his comment, maybe it is an attempted joke. Not a good one but maybe. why do you ask him in stead of telling us what your going to do to this thread.
And James thanks for the deal. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Am I the only one who just:
a) could give a sh** less about an obscure, faraway food deal
b) could care less about his wimpy scam
c) wonder what in the he** it's doing on the deals page with this subject line

I'm sorry if that sounded derogatory, I think it just came out wrong. I'm asian myself, its just funny that he stated combination plate in that way http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/wink.gif

lololol, that's one of the funniest posts I've seen in forever. I don't see how it could be construed as racist at all and I'm Asian too http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

What kind of deal is this? What are u implying? Yeah it's a real riot to cap on Asians. Surely you had to think that a post like this would offend people. Next time think before u post please. Have the decency to show some respect- yes even to Asians. I can't believe this crap.

Cap on Asians? Give me a break, if your that culturaly sensative you need help. Although it really doesn't classify as a deal we can all use, lighten up people, go sit in the sun and drink a Corona. (No offense to the Mexican culture)

Did I miss something? I didn't see anything racist in that guy's posting. Maybe it was edited. Or are y'all joking and I'm just being dense? I'm not anywhere near Philly, but the food sounds pretty good. Hard to find good Asian food down here in southeast Louisiana. Although New Orleans and (even) acultural Baton Rouge have some damned good ones. Ummm. I'm salivating just thinking about the yummy dim sum.....Ummm.....good food.....

yeah g-sup ..tell me how many times that someone has made a racist mark towards you because you were Chinese or better yet tell me how it feels to work hard in a Chinese restaurant all day only to get ripped off by customers because it was a good "deal" to do so. Come on 5.00 bucks isn't a lot. Take my mom, she speaks English with an accent and runs a Chinese restaurant, do you think that for a second customers don't try to trick her for a "deal" of a meal because they think that she doesn't understand English too well. My favorite is when customers don't think my mom knows any English and screams at her in kingarden vocab. Yeah there's my culturally sensitivity for u. Who's the sensitive one now? Seriously. Yeah I need "help" because I am proud of who I am and I'm not afraid to defend myself if necessary. In this case, I feel that it is.

I'm still not sure if this whole "anti-racist" thing is a joke or not, but here's my take on the situation if you guys are actually serious.
I've combed jameslee's original post carefully, and I can detect nothing, not even a single word, that is racist or implies racism in any way. He might as well be talking about scamming McDonalds. If anyone can point out any part of his post that implies racism... please feel free.
This situation illustrates the classic problem of racism... that most feelings of racism originate from the mind of the person that claims to be the victim of racism. If you see any racism in jameslee's original post... then you, my friend, are the racist.

I think this post needs to just die down... I never meant to spark some sort of asian racism issue, since I had only remarked on the way that he said combination plate. I can understand that people have had little experience with asian food (I have one at every block near my house). So I'd say just don't take what jameslee saying as racist. I never saw it as racist or anything, so everybody else shouldn't either. So, as those chinese to go things say, have a nice day http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
nor did i find it racist. some of the asian community needs to settle down and not feel so bashed. its only a food plate. Now being jewish I wouldnt be thrilled if someone busted some nazi jokes but anytyhing else I will be the first to laugh along...

yes, there is such a thing as being too politically correct;
black people arent black they are "african american"
asian people aren't asian they are "people of ethnic background"
white people aren't white they are....."pigmently challenged"??!!?
anyway, this was such a nice neighborhood, play nice or move!
