It's in the east bay. You can visit SF and such. You can either drive or take public transportation (Bart)

Hayward is a few miles south of Oakland, a few more miles south of Berkeley, and across the Bay from San Francisco. Yosemite would be a few hour's drive, but not horrible. I'd say stick with the cities, though. Two days does not do Yosemite justice.

You can hit all the tourist sites in San Fran like the Pier and stuff...the Pier is actually pretty cool...
I know because I have tons of Uncles and Aunts in SF...and we always go to the freaking pier...

One day Yosemite trips are possible, but you just don't get to fully experience the granduer. I'd say it's way better to go for a nice long drive and see Half Dome and dip your feet in the river and have a nice picnic then leave then spending an hour at Fisherman's Wharf.

isn't :passwird: like a landmark? :P he should be a scheduled tourist attraction for all G|A users :P hehe.. but anyways.. hayward to passwird is bout 17 miles approx.. hayward to sf (where i live) is approx 25 miles (according to www.mapquest.com) .. in sf, theres all those tourist attractions.. not that i would know, since i dont frequent those areas too often.. but yeah, the pier, where they rip you off for seafood.. alcatraz, you may be able to jus book an hour or two in advance, just buy the ticket at the ferry (i could be wrong).
it all depends on what you like to do.. jus ask if ya need recommendations for diff kinds of restaurants, or other destinations 'round here.. there isn't a whole lot tho... hmmm how bout wine tasting in napa? hehe
and i'd agree with the others, yosemite would be nice, but since u only got a day, thats not enough to really enjoy it.

What would you be interested in doing in SF? Tourist stuff, bar hopping, scene watching, dancing, seeing art + culture, going to a Giant's game? Do you want the BIG attractions, or cruising around for nice views of the city, or exploring the cracks and crevices of back-alley bars, warehouse district clubs, and 2:00 AM parties on industrial beaches?

Might I recommend that you try to make time to get lunch at In-N-Out burger, there are a few in the area and you should really try to visit one. Exquisite burgers that will make you want to move to the West Coast.

You'll be visiting one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Unless you have a several weeks. please refrain from wasting time bar hopping, dancing, and god forgive, walking around with a hangover. I'm not against these activities. I just believe that if you spend your only two days in SF resorting to popular culture, you'll be committing unforgiveable sin and you'll be damned FOREVER....until you come back and visit all the real sights.
1. Forget the clubs, take a drive southbound on Market St. up to Twin Peaks and admire an unforgettable nocturne.
2. If the winter chills of June are too much for you, then visit "The View," a cocktail lounge at the top of the Marriot Hotel (the one that looks like a giant jukebox). Another good view of the city with a Jack n Coke.
3. Drive down HW1 and visit the beaches. Montara State Beach (20 minutes from downtown SF) is my favorite. If time permits, go on a weekday afternoon. You'll pretty much have the whole beach to yourself. Turn on some Bossanova, stare at the horizon and experience cheesy emotions that you've never thought you were capable of enjoying before.
4. Visit the lookouts of Golden Gate Bridge. Aim for the one on the North-West end of the bridge. It has the best view and least people.
5. Fisherman's Wharf. Try some $20 fish and chips. Only available in SF.
That should keep you busy for a couple days.

:stupid: Good advice! For #1, hehe, that's my neighborhood, you can see some pix in this thread (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59072&highlight=san+francisco) ... But if you go to the tourist point, at the top of Twin Peaks, you'll get a better view.
Though I don't know about #5. I went down to fisherman's wharf for some chowder, and I KNOW how (canned) chowder tastes like.. That placed served friggin Campbells!
But as for shawn's advice, I would NOT make a trip to SF to go to In & Out. They have pretty good burgers and stuff, but are you sure you wanna go to a "fast food" (not really that fast) joint while visiting? I'd save that for when you have a few days here and don't have anywhere to go.

$20? I got a $4 breadbowl of chowder on the pier that kicked every restaurant's collective butts.
Hmm...food from salty strangers....
The physicist in me is compelled to mention the Exploratorium (http://www.exploratorium.edu/)in the old art house in SF. It tends to be filled with kids (summer day care), but it's something everyone should experience at least once. It's a blast-lots of cool stuff to play with.
Oh and In-And-Out...good burgers...lots of onions... yummm.

I respect Nuts' opinion, but if you live far from the West and have never had an In-N-Out burger, it really should be had at least once. It's beautiful. According to the National Enquirer, Kirsten Dunst described eating a Double-Double as an "orgasm in the mouth."
I don't really believe that quote seeing how as it came from a tabloid, but man... Kirsten Dunst... Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yeah.
A) (Insert joke here concerning Kirsten Dunst's mouth and orgasm.)
B) Get the burger.

When I flew into Vegas, I made sure that we stopped at an In-n-Out because I had never been in "The West" before. It was truly awesome. I almost felt like getting a second double-double... maybe I should have ordered a 20x20! :heh:

yeah, the exploratorium is pretty cool.. lots of neat stuff kids and adults will enjoy. i remember they used to dissect cows eyes to show people. they have the funny mirrors, vacuum tubes.. pretty much lots of science stuff.. very much worth the few bucks entrance fee! (i think first wednesday of every month is free too?)

there should be one in that area.. there's also one in marin, fisherman's wharf, daly city, palo alto, several in san jose area.
hehe.. and as for "orgasm in the mouth"? when I first tried their burgers, I thought it was the greatest thing. before they opened in the city, I would drive about 35 miles to Palo Alto just to get that, and some krispy kreme. Now that its nearby, the novelty has faded for me. still one of the better burger joints around tho :)
and as for a Giants game.. tho that'd sound good, they aren't playing in the city on that day. :) I'd say go to an A's game (haven't checked their schedule), but I'm not a big fan, and their stadium isn't much of an attraction in itself, unlike PacBell Park.
Hmm, so cheapbast@rd, are you traveling by yourself, or with anyone else?

i'm travelling by myself. the region training guy out there said if i come, they would take me out in a boat on the ocean on friday. that sounds fun. i had in-n-out there last september when i had some other training. yummmm.....i'm going to have to look up the thread about all of the special orders you can get there.

Come down to Mountain View and see all the vacated office buildings in the Valley :)
Or, skip Exploratorium and come down to San Joser to the Tech Museum. We're cooler! :p
I actually got see Salman Rushdie interviewed by Michael Chabon in Hayward back in October. What an awesome night that was.
Anyway, I'd suggest hitting SF and taking in some of the vistas available in the hills. Very pretty stuff. There's plenty of hiking around too, if you're into that sort of thing. Berkley's nearby as well (which I've yet to get up to.. apparently you can get sushi and jazz in one place, which sounds kickass to me). In SF, there are some great shows literally every weekend at the Filmore and other venues there. I was surprised to look at their upcoming shows and see several bands listed I wanted to hear.

Oh, BTW. Check out http://www.craigslist.org for a good list of upcoming events and stuff in the Bay Area. You can find some last minute tickets and event listings that you might not find in the papers. Erotic Robots, anyone?

Hey, I forgot about it earlier, but you might want to check out Intel's museum, I'm not sure if it's still there, but I went a few years ago, and it was an interesting way to kill a few hours, though if you're only going to be there for two days, you might want to forego it.

you talkin about Yoshi's Sushi/Jazz Bar in Oakland? The sushi's a little overpriced, but with the Jazz, it's worth visiting. Just go to the South end of Telegraph street and you're there.

Among other things, San Francisco happens to be world renown for it's sourdough. Definitely get a sourdough chowder bowl when you're there :lick:
