It's just a concept phone. It's not gonna be sold. But I must agree. That thing is F-U-G-L-Y !!!

WOW! It's hideous!

I had the original Matrix phone (or as close as you could get) the Nokia 8860.

I recently fleabayed it and got Nextel. The phone was fine but had *NO* modern features other than the plain vanilla ones on all phones.

No, it's not a concept phone. It will be sold with Sprint PCS.

The Nokia 8860 was nowhere near the "Matrix" phone. I would say the Nokia 7160/7190 was the closest that we could buy here in the states. But the phone was really a Nokia 8110 which we could not buy here.

I think you can only buy it through Best Buy. And you have to activate it through Samsung. Sprint PCS won't sell it in their store and won't activate it online. So I've heard.

eBay. But you won't be able to use them here since they only work on 900Mhz GSM and all the US GSM carriers utilize 1900Mhz.

So brain's a phone geek. When I get the urge to unlock my phone, I'll swap my NT/PC geektime for your phone time!

Finally! Someone who knows the difference! Yay!

the 8860/8890 is what everyone called the matrix phone, but it was obviously not. My friend in HK had the 8110, it was a piece of crap.

Although, my salesforce made a killing telling people that the 8860 was the Matrix phone at launch. We had 100 units one week prior to the official release and were selling them for $1200 a pop for the people that didn't want to wait. Once they hit the streets a week later, they were down to the suggested retail price of $799.99.

I'm sorry, but who in their right mind would pay $800 for a phone!!???!! I paid $40 for mine, and the only reason I did that was because I got a second one for free!!!

Before digital service was around, I had clients paying $3000 to become a Motorola VIP customer. This VIP status entitled the customer to a 5 year warranty on their phones, a black phone w/ a red LED display, and their initials put on their phone in gold. And now they have the Vertu series of phones which are made of precious metals and really have no limit on how expensive they can be.

It's unfortunate that insurance is not an option with some carriers. T-Mobile does not offer it and AT&T does not offer it for their GSM customers.
