So who's going to get this game when it comes out next week? I know a couple of you guys play after reading the MMORPG thread. The game is sweet. I just got it 2 days ago and i'm already Battle Rank 10, that's how addicting it is :) At first it seems kind of slow because you are alone. It is necessary to be part of a team in this game. Once you fight a war with 100+ people some in tanks, airplanes, ATVs you'll be hooked. It's the perfect FPS, a neverending war.

How is the teamkiller aspect? The single most irritating thing in online play for me is my teamplayers screwing our own team.

Bires they emply a grief system. Everytime you hurt a teammate, team vehicle or anything of that sort you get grief points after a certain amount you are not allowed to use your weapon until they die down. The exception is in squads. If you are in a squad then you can kill each other as it is set up where sqwuads and outfits have sovereignty.

The game looks great but I'm not one for paying those monthly fees to play online.

Does Planetside have any single player missions - will it be a good game for LAN parties or is it strickly online only?

You know...the more I think about it, the less I want to play it.

I like CS style of FPS and I HATE UT2003 style of FPS. This means I like deliberate movement, shooting, stealth, and strategy, not the run-into-the-room-guns-blazing style.

This game is ALL strategy it's not the UT2003 style of FPS. I hate that style as welll :)

Well, first off, there aren't any "good" guns in th game. Everything in the game has it's role as it is designed to be team based. The air assault vehicles can easily be killed by anti air. Anti air easily killd by anti-armored infantry, infantry easily killed by MAX robots and so on. So, everyone isn't around doing the same thing you HAVE TO be diverse.

In order to gain a good amount of experience you have to capture bases on continents. They have the Lattice system in place so that you can't just have to capture any base. You have to capture a base linked to one of your bases in order to take over. Also, bases have power levels, after you buy so many vehicles and time passes they lose their power and you have to refill the silos or the base will power down and anyone can take over.

Basically, everyone has a role and sometimes you have many roles. You can develop pretty good war plans to try to take over a continent and it's pretty amazing when you see 200 person battles with tons of vehicles. There are no heros in this game, the teams are heros.

and yes, its mainly strategy. Get here, take this base, hotdrop or advance on it. We (outfit) also call in our reaver "Squadrons" for air support when we need it. Usually when taking bases im an infil so, i sneak in and tell my teammates whats there so they know if they can get in easily. But they messed up the exp system, it was so much better earlier, they completely KILLED my entire method of getting exp.

Hey, UT Memo, what empire u play with? I play on Vanu, even though it is somewhat weaker than the others, seeing as the pulsar and the beamer are much worse than thier NC or TR counterparts, the guass is at least 2 times better than the Pulsar, and the Cycler is also a bit better. The beamer is also weaker than the Repeater and the Mag-Scatter. Damn NC, Mag-Scatter = cheap. TR MAXes can guard a tower pretty damn well, seeing as they can "anchor" themselves and increase thier refire rate and thier accuracy. MagRider = w34k compared to the prowler or the vanguard since the other two have better weaponry; plus, the thresher = weaker than the NC/TR attack buggies.

btw, what do u play as? i am either Adv. Hacker Infil or Special Assualt, i kill MAXes; and sneak around pissing everyone off, until somebody sees me and then BAM im dead. :( =P its a great game...i think everybody should buy it...EVERYBODY!

The MagRider is NOT weak. That thing is overpowered compared to the other two tanks. No other tank allows someone to drive around and fire weapons without someone else's assistance. In addition, the MagRider's crushing range is about three times the width of the tank...so if it drives anywhere remotely near you (even if it is on the other side of a tree from you)...you will be instantly crushed. I hate when VS complain about their tanks... I played all three empires during the beta, and VS is not underpowered... The VS MAXs with their jumpjets and the MagRider definitely keep you guys even with (especially considering how 50% of VS players have MagRider certs) or better than the other empires.
My most recent character, just before the end of the beta was a BR16/CR2 TR guy. I used mainly the Decimator and Thumper, and I flew a Galaxy (I had to get the Galaxy cert because I had a clan (or whatever they are called) of about 30 people...and it made sense to get the Galaxy if I was going to be the leader...) Oh well...I'm not going to buy PlanetSide YET. I'm moving to Germany in exactly two months, and I want to check out what kind of internet will be available in my place over there... If I were staying here, I probably would have bought the game already.

The Magrider is definately not underpowered. IT's the only thing the VS has gonig for them, I think. The VS maxes are really underpowerd. The jets are almost useless because up against the TR...the missile locks instantly kill you. The TR dual cycler max on the other hand is over powered, it easily kills both armor and infantry.
