So I have a cavity filling last Friday. My teeth seem to be so sensitive that I have had TOO any fillings in my life and it's come to the point where I expect to have a cavity at least once a year and drills are like second nature to me. Anyway, I had the most...interesting appt. last Friday.

I'm in the chair and he's numming my lower, left jaw so he can put the needle in for the novacane (or whatever they use). He then puts the needle in which is whatever, and then suddenly, this JERK of pain runs through my entire body and up to my brain and I scream in pain. NEVER in my 20 years of going to the dentist has it hurt! Even with my wisdom teeth! But boom, here it is.

Although..it hurt, but it also was the STRANGEST feeling I've ever had. He backed off with the needle, apologized and said that we got really close to the nerve which means it'll num my mouth really well. I wasn't mad at him, I mean, it's not like he did anything wrong..he just got too close. But right after it happened I started seeing double, I guess my whole left cheek was whiteish, I was shaking all over, and I couldn't control the tearing of my eyes. What a weird experience! I thought I'd be screwed up forever. It was scary then, but funny now. Now I wonder what drugs do...

Yup, nerve endings are nothing to be trifled with. Especially in your teeth.

Damn, that anecdote has got me thinking about the movie Marathon Man now. Creepers!

root canals, fear them, respect them, hate them with the very fiber of your soul... ive needed two, one on a bottom tooth and one on a top tooth. since upper teeth have two roots it was so sensitive afterwards, much more than the bottom one :(

oh and when my dentist (Dr. Tank) injects the novicane, his young female assistant rubs my earlobe to help bring my mind off the pain :naughty:
