As usual, send the original UPC to Maxtor and a copy to Staples. if you have any question(s), do not call Staples. Post it here and I or other members will try to answer it.
A friendly reminder if you want in on this deal, save the rebate forms or print it out ASAP.

I just had an afterthought. You should keep copies of all your rebates, upc labels, and receipts. So if they deny you because they only accept original upc's, can't you just say they lost your original request, then send in the copies when they ask for it? Lol, it's a way longer process, but you know you'll get it eventually. Food for thought. :)

I only got one rebate back so far. I'm still waiting for the other one but I haven't got an email back yet saying it was denied. Did anyone else get both rebates back? I'm hesitant to take advantage of this one until I get the other one back.

What you do is call the number on the rebate form, I hope you kept a copy for yourself, and give HQ the promotion number and have them look it up for you. I never got the email for the second one last time for the rebate either. I called and got the valid confirmation from them.

i think there's a chance that only 1 $30 rebate will be honor, since both rebates require the ORIGINAL UPC CODE !! so basically $60 which is still not a bad deal.

last summer, i bought this same drive from staples with a pricematch to compuplus.com
after tax, it was a little above $90
there was one $30 maxtor rebate and two $30 staples rebate (just like this one here) that all wanted the original UPC and all were sent to diff depts at rebatesHQ
i ended up getting all the rebates and a very very cheap harddrive

It looks like this time, they remembered to include the phrase.
No reproductions of the UPC code will be accepted.

As far as I can tell Rebate 1 and 2 are the same. The are both going to the same address and both mention rebateshq.com
This would have been a great deal. Though $55 plus shipping isnt so bad for a 80GB HD, is this an 8MB version?

yeah its an 8mb

You obviously do not do enough rebates. It's there 95% of the time and they still take the copy of UPC or you just simply give them a call and they'll validate it. I have $1,700 rebates outstanding right now and most of them are processing (the rest were sent out just recently).
Also, yes, same PO box, same rebate center
BUT different promotion number = different department = different rebate.
I'm not gonna waste my time. If you do not feel safe, don't do it.

Uh...really...?
Wow. $1700...
Bold. Hope they all work out.
(BTW: I have only had one rebate go sour on me...it was from accessmicro...for only $25.)

Wow. I bow to your rebate experience. No sarcasm intended. Good luck all.

I only messed up on one rebate. The UPC from a CD_RW was too thick and couldn't go throug the mail machine and they sent the thing back to me asking to put it in a thick manilla envelope. The UPC things was a half a business card but it was real rigid and I guess it messed up the mail sorting machine. Anyways by the time I got it back it was the postmark date.
To date I think I've received over 500 dollars worth of rebates. I have less than 50 bucks outstanding.

at one point in time, my highest outstanding in rebates was $2200
my total is around $8700 over the past two years

I have this gut feeling that you are a big seller on EBay or half.com ;)

Note: Both rebates require the original UPC. But I emailed RebatesHQ, the company handling the rebates, and they responded with:
Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We realize that both the manufacturer and Staples are offering a rebate for the same product and thatboth are requesting an original UPC and receipt. We apologize for the confusion. Please submit the original UPC barcode and receipt to the manufacturer, and submit a copy of the UPC barcode and receipt to Staples in a separate envelope.
So it seems you should be able to net both rebates. I'd suggest emailing them yourself, just so you have your own record. Good luck.

I e-mailed them several days ago and got the same exact response. I'll be including a copy of that e-mail to staples :) "just in case"
I know they accept copies. Staples is the best company to deal with rebates.

I don't know if the inventory for the web site is regional, but I get the following when I try to check out:
Sorry, the following item(s) you have placed in your Cart are currently out of stock.

It is. One (the only) good thing about living in a smallish city...deals like these tend to last a long time.
I just got in on this... used a 30 off 150 printable coupon (got my mom to come with me and spend $40 for some office supplies she needed), so hopefully it'll come out to 110-30-30-30 = $20 :D
What you might consider is cutting out another piece of black cardboard from the box and pasting the copy of the UPC on there. Think of it as a supporting back to it, but the rebate worker may think of it as the real UPC :) Staples has been somewhat picky in the past in my experience about copies of stuff, and I've had to call denied rebates back in and prove my purchase, so this is just food for thought on a smoother rebate process.
all the rebate experience in this thread and mysterx is clearly still the one that shares the most.
 to mysterx :D

How?
I can find no email link on the rebateshq website, neither does their customer service number allow you to speak to a CSR.
Does anyone have their email or phone number?

I got in on this deal and I sent a COPY of the UPC to staples and the original to the maxtor offer, and I got an email about the rebate with a link to rebateshq.com with the following info:
Date Received: 05-24-2003
Status: Invalid
Status Detail: We did not receive the 80GB 7200 RPM ULTRA SERIES HARD DRIVE.Original UPC for this product. Please send it to: ATTENTION RESUBMISSIONS, PO BOX 9013 Coppell, TX 75019.
Any ideas how to proceed? I'm not sure if that info is for the staples offer or the maxtor offer, but I did send the entire UPC and serial/model label to the maxtor offer number.

If anyone is interested, I called rebateshq and inquired about my UPC problem. They said I sent a copy for the staples rebate (not the maxtor rebate), and I said there was two rebates. They said if I faxed them a copy of the UPC and receipt it would be processed. Doesn't make any sense if they already have those copies that faxing them a copy of the same thing would prove anything, but I did it anyway, so we'll see.
Fax number is 1800-886-8370

I talked to a Staples rebate center CSR. He gave me the same story (copy to staples) and gave me his CSR ID # and said write sending copy per ******, Staples ID # *******. We'll see if the wires don't get crossed and I have to call them back later.

time for me to input again:
i got the email as expected on the $30 rebate being invalid due to not receiving the original UPC
1) call rebateshq .. they changed the system it seems like, you no longer get to speak to someone by waiting and not pressing anything .. now you would press something like 2-2-1-6
'2' for u sent in rebate more than 6 weeks ago, then '2' for something I can't remember, then '1' to confirm your phone number, and then '6' for speaking to someone
the trick is to press the numbers that make it seem like you have sent in a rebate long time ago and waiting forever to get it and have not heard anything .. that will get you someone to speak to
2) the first guy I talked to .. he asked me to fax it in or resubmit copies of everything via mail .. i said 'ok' .. hung up and called back again .. the second lady I spoke to asked for the upc number and validated it right away for me
i then called back again (different order for same drive & rebate, different address) and this third lady didnt even need anything, i simply told her the original was sent to manufacturer and she validated it for me
the trick is: call again until someone validates it for you
