This week my work purchased this great new toy for me:

The Kyocera Smartphone 7135 is basically a Palm phone, but the good thing is that since it is with Verizon, I can access the Verizon Express Network for checking email and surfing the web. I have the phone checking a pop3 mail account using Eudora:

And most importantly, I can use EIS web browser to check out my favorite site:

I am going to try and use MovieTickets.com tonight, to see if I can order tickets via the phone instead of waiting in line.

So far I am pretty impressed by it, although I have to learn how to conserve the battery a little bit better. Of course I like to have the screen as bright as possible but that drains the batteries quickly, especially when I am using the palm part of it a lot.

Fun times! :D

That phone is 490 thru UC San Diego groupbuy. I checked already a few weeks ago. It's pretty cool as it plays divx, mpeg, etc. files as well as mp3s, wmas and such.

THe coolest thing is that you can use a mp3 as a ringer.

I would've gotten the 7135, but this (http://www.shackrats-hideout.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album125&op=modload&name=Photo_Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php&page=1) is the phone that I want.

Samsung i700

Released on the 19th of May. Can't wait!

Coolest thing about it is that you can voice dial any contact without manually training it. You can also say "call 858-775-xxxx" at a natural pace and it'll recognize it with relative accuracy.

Suh-wheeeet!!

How much does that Pocket PC phone cost? I saw some a little while ago for $600-700. Now, getting my 400mhz Dell Axim for $200 makes me wonder how adding the cellular technology (and I guess the little camera :P) can add $400 to it!

Psycho, that is a dope phone as well. The only reason why I wouldn't get it is because I need to synch with a PC and a Mac, which as far as I know is not possible with a pocket PC.

How much is that phone going to cost, and with which provider?

SHould be 550 thru UCSD Group buy, i talked to the UCSD VZW account rep last week about it. That ends up being a pretty good deal. Of course, it's VZW. In San Diego, I wouldn't go with anything less.

As for palm vs. PPC, that is a big issue. Luckily I'm a current PPC user. But, if I got a mac (and i want one), I would need to switch to the 7135. Both phones are Suh-WHEEET

I'm still not sold on PDA phones yet.. Too big and they LOOK like someone tried to add a phone to a PDA...

I'm waiting for something that's all in one including wifi that looks like an original, functional idea.

I was waiting for the 7135 for a long time. It was supposed to come out for Sprint but it never did. A very good replacement will be the Sprint Samsung I-500 which will be almost the same thing except it's the size of a motorola startac. The verizon version will be even better with an SD slot and external display but use Pocket PC.
