I just got a pair of aqua socks, the Teva Proton in size 8 and they are a bit loose. I usually wear a size 8.5 so I figure I go witht he 8 for the Tevas. Are they suppose to be loose? I can fit about the width of a finger and a half in the back when I push my foot all the way forward.

As a floridian who is a beach savvy/surfer type person let me tell you: aqua socks are amazingly gay and touristy.

I'm not going to wear these walking down city streets and stuff like that. I'm going to wear them when I go kayaking and white water rafting.

The shoes should be pretty snug. Did you buy these shoes online? I would have recommended that you go to a sporting goods store or a dive shop to buy them so that you could at least try them on.

I have a pair of dive boots that are similar to aqua socks and I know for a fact that if they are too big and you are trying to swim (without fins), they can easily slip off because the water applies pressure to the inside parts of the sole that are not covered by your feet.

They should definately be snug.

I just bought some cheap aqua socks from payless for $7.99. I got them for whitewater rafting and fishing. I don't think they are touristy but then again I don't wear them unless I am doing something that I need to have them on. I think they look gay regardless of why you are wearing them but they serve their purpose in the water.

Water Shoes/Aqua Socks aren't amazingly gay and touristy when you don't want to cut up your feet while walking around sharp coral. I was glad to have them when I was in French Polynesia - between the coral and the volcanic rock, there was plenty of places to tear your feet up.

I also use them for river fishing (fly, spinning)- the ones I bought from Teva provide excellent grip on wet rocks and other surfaces.

Ok... do I have to be COMPLETELY specific with you as to where I would wear these? I would wear them if I were on a Motu in the South Pacific - a place FULL of coral, sea urchins, rough and jagged rocks, etc.

Is there ANYTHING close to this near the Poopdeck or the Strand in general?

NO.
