I wish I knew about this last year when I bought it http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/frown.gif Paid $150.
College engineers? I'm still in High School and I find the calculator invaluable for Calculus and the SATs (almost feels like cheating).

Staples wrote me an email claiming the 40 off 150 is only good for catalog orders...blah...so I think I'm going to have to use the 30 off 150...if I can't get them to just let me use it. I sent them a STONGLY WORDED email, however, so they better watch out! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Considering most places sell it for $149 yes it is. However, one thing I have noticed about the TI-89 in particular is there are ALOT of them up for auction Ebay, wonder where all those sellers got them from...

Well, the TI-89 is certainly worth its price premium over the 83. It can solve equations and a lot of other neat stuff that saved my butt in the last few minutes of a lot of tests. However, I got stuck paying $160 for it last year. :-(

how much was the ti-89 going on egay???i rather spend 110 for the brand new one than someone on egay..the ti-89 is very good and does everything the ti-92 plus can do and it's much smaller than the 92 +..there r too many function on 89 that i still haven't master yet..

I did a little searching on Ebay and some guy is actually selling a cdr full of programs for the TI-89? Any of you TI-89 owners have experience with them? Where can I get them for free? Also, regarding the TI-92, I haven't seen any store that sells anything higher than the 89. All the advertisments I've seen this past week had the 89 as the highest model. How much does the TI-92 sell for? Thanks.

I have been using the TI-89 for about 2 years now and I have no complaints at all. It is well worth the money over the the TI-83. I have had the chance to play around with some of the prgrams, I know there is many websites out there. Juts do a search for them. In regrads with the price, it is a good price but u might want to check target, i believe I saw a special on them last week

Go to www.ticalc.org (http://www.ticalc.org) for the programs. Of course, they are free.
Please don't email me asking how to install the stuff, just look on the site.

I think it is sad that so many engineers need something like a TI-89

Well, this calculator saved my ass so bad in Pre-Calc last year. I heard from one of my buds that it will save my ass even more this year in AP-Calc.
God bless this calculator.
I've heard that there is one that is a little better...The HP-49G...It shows the work for the problems it does.
There is nothing worse than having your teacher say "you have to show your work"...

As a math major about to enter his 4th year in one of the top undergrad math programs in the nation, I must say I have to agree with your teacher. Any schmoe can come up with the right answer, but the truly enlightened are those who can explain _why_ an answer is correct.
And for those who rely on a calculator/ computer to do math, don't take anything higher than DE's or Linear Algebra. Because no calculator or program will do your work for you in an Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Topology, or Differential Geometry class. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I am addicted to my calculator when it comes to math! Except last year my class was not allowed to use a calculator for Calculus... I felt so violated and naked without it. I had to write out the easiest problems i.e. 2+2=17... or something like that. Thank God for calculators! Great Deal!

the calculator is a tool that is mean to be use..if everyone think like u vector, than how da hell is Texas instrument gonna make any monies??most ppl including meself r not as smart as u, therefore we need the ti-89 as a guide to solving complex problems and use as a long term memory storage..it acts as a 2nd brain for us..i know u is smart vector, but u dont have II brat about it..that's my opinion, what is your???

The reason most catalogues do not sell the 92 or 92+ is because it is not allowed on the Sats or anyother tests due to its full keyboard. Also, the 92+ has a few more geometry features than the ti-89 I believe.
I like the calculator so I can check my answers. You still gotta do the work for the credit, but you can make sure you do not do something really stupid by checking your answers with it.
