Some reason I decided to look around at DVRs again tonight and bam walked into this great deal.
You get a refurbished 5040 unit which records 40 hours and it includes the lifetime subscription for $280+tax+shipping. I did not have to pay tax and it ended up being $292 for me. Not too bad considering their lifetime subscription fee is going up to $300 at the end of the month.
I found the extra 15% from fatwallet so here is the link.

BTW You can switch out the hard drive if it is not big enough for you or you can transfer the videos to your computer. :thumb:

I was at my local Best Buy today in San Diego, and I saw the Replay TV 5040 model for $199 after rebates. So if anyone is interested, your local B&M store would be the best bet. And they are brand new, not refurbed.

$199 after rebate plus $250 lifetime subscription you mean ($449 plus tax total), at least if you buy right now. On June 1, it'll be $199 plus $299 for lifetime subscription ($498).

Well personally I will probably put in a bigger hard drive in the unit so having a refurb does not matter to me because I will void the warranty anyways.
The thing in the unit that is probably most likely to fail is the hard drive. I do not know the size of it but I am betting that it is not that big to cost an extra $200+ for the new unit (I actually just looked because I was curious and it is a 40 gig hard drive). Look at how many hard drive deals are here on gotapex and on many of them you can get a 3 year warranty on the drive. I personally have hard drives all around the house because of so many deals.
Plus this is a straight up deal and you do not have to bother with any MIR. If you think of having to pay the subscription fee regardless of whether the unit is refurb or new you basically get the refurb unit for $30.

yeah, i misread the forum. it is a much better deal to get the refurbed one, especially since its straight from the manufacturer.

Yeah I reread my first post and could see where it might have been a little confusing. Just fixed it to say including lifetime subscription.
Hopefully they ship it this week because I am ready to see this bad boy in action.

I have this sneaky feeling that they won't last even five years. There will probably be alternatives in the future that people haven't even dreamed of yet.
In 5 years, everyone's going to be looking for the HD version. :)

It's either here already or here soon. Your cable company will provide the storage on their side, your remote interfaces to it.
I still like the idea of having control over my hardware, in the future, maybe the cable way. I've had a Showstopper for two years and put in an 80 gig (80 hours) and look forward to the 5040 and will put in a 200 on the next big HDD deal. I'll run the 40 for the 90 days in my bedroom to make sure it works, then breal that seal!

What's the promo code?
The link only gives me a page that says, "We're sorry, but the link you have followed is malformed or out of date. Please go back and try again."
Anyone?
Dave.

It appears the company is in danger of Chapter 11, that seems to be widely known. Should that happen, where would everyone stand, if we loose the programming, or will another company pick up the programming?
ReplayTV was bought out by D&M (an absolutely ENORMOUS audio video corporation).
Yeah D&M is the parent company of Denon and Marantz. I got in on the deal a while back when they had the 2 rebates totaling $100. While I am yet to receive my rebates I have received the following email:
We appreciate your recent ReplayTV purchase and your continued patience as we transition the rebates over to DNNA for fulfillment. All valid rebates submitted to SONICblue for ReplayTV products will be paid by DNNA no later than the middle of June.
Even when I thought that the rebate would not go through, I was happy with my purchase. I may pick one of these up for the bedroom.

I just saw the Apex digital recorder on the deals page http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008N6XF/ref%3Dnosim/gotapex/104-6743854-6149546 For nearly $100 cheaper and not refurbished, this item will pause live tv and will play on HDTV. It is not web based, therefore does not have the programing advantage of the Replay tv, still mostly I want the ability to pause live tv. Any opinions on comparing these two machines?

I placed my order a week ago,5/27th, and as of now, it hasn't shipped or been charged to my CC. Has anyone had theirs shipped yet? BTW, I don't know about the 15% discount weather it is still available or not, but this offer is still going at the pre 15% discount price of $329.99, that surprised me because one of their selling points were that the price for lifetime sub. was to go up June 1st.to hurry to place the order by June 1st. so this deal should have had a price increase on June 1st. But it hasn't. Still I am anxious to get it, looking forward to watch tv this new way and also looking forward to voiding my warranty ant put a 160 gig drive in it, though that makes me a lillel nervous, still I will take a sho.
I am editing this post, there was a line referring to shipping that said, "Orders will ship in two week window:
May 30th - June 13th via UPS Ground Only! In worst case, it will ship on the 13th with ground transfort, add anoter two weeks, this would make delivery a month after the order. Anyone have better luck?

From what I've been reading in other forums, no one has received any shipment or tracking information. They were supposed to start shipping some time over the weekend but obviously, that hasn't come to fruition. :(
As to the price increase: supposedly, due to the server problems they've been having with their web site—which is related to the "processing-cancelled-processing" status almost all orders have been experiencing—they've pushed back the date of the price increase to June 15.

Several people have recieved their replaytv's now so orders are slowly arriving. As for the apex model and comparing it to the replaytv....the apex model has an estimated ship date of sometime in 2004....how long are you willing to wait on the features you want?

I was reading the avsforum, as far as I can tell they are shipping orders up to around 422XXX, I have order 442XXX. I will take a guess they will ship it by 6/13th.

A better question though... has anybodies credit card been charged yet? Lots of people over at the AVS forums say they havent, and I known mine hasn't either. Not even a pending charge yet...

IrishSS, I used AMEX so I could get a longer warranty, I called them, I haven't been charged but the amount has been approved and they have up to a year to complete the charge. They must have been so swamped that they are behind in their bookkeeping.

I got mine yesterday and already love it. It is already setup to record all those shows I like to watch. Now I can go to sleep at a reasonable time and not stay up to watch something I really want to see. It will save you time of commercials but I have a feeling it will cause more tv watching overall.

WTF? Ordered mine on 5/27 and still "Processing". What gives?
Anyone speak to a Cust Service Rep? Any help?
Dave.
Got mine. Brand new, or at least never plugged in (rear RCA plugs are virgin).
Fan noise is annoying, may replace it after warranty expires (add second hard drive same time).

Fan noise is annoying, may replace it after warranty expires (add second hard drive same time). I love mine, I blelieve it is the best item I found on your site. In fact, I ordered a 2nd and a 160 gig drive to upgrade. Would you consider relocating the unit somewhere else, like in a closet or another room. there are no controls on the unit, so no need to have it in the same room. With everything the remote does is onscreen, it's cheap to get remote extenders. I hope this would be a decent solution for fan noise. Let us know if you go this way.
Locating it in another room or in a closet is expensive for me (need to open up the drywall to run new cabling). I may end up going with a Sanyo Denki Petit Ace 80x15mm fan (20.13cfm at 21dBA), maybe even run at 7v. Apparently, cooling is good enough with that and MUCH quieter. Expensive though at $18 plus shipping. The Panaflo FBA08T12L is much cheaper at $10 plus shipping from Digikey.

I found this thread at the AVSforum on fan noise http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=217232 You might find it interesting. Someone tried and is happy with the Sanyo fan you mentioned.

FYI, extended warranties on all my credit cards are null and void with refurb products. Including AmEx. Unless the receipt doesn't say refurb on it ....
I noticed the continually running fan too. I tried it on broadcast TV (from the antenna) but the quality of my broadcast tv is not good enough for the commercial skip to work, automatically. That's ok, I'll be getting cable soon.

Seems like the best specs yet for an 80x15mm fan. No idea where to buy it though.
