kazaa is my guess -- especially since kazaa apparently is now advertising on yahoo mail

I actually read an article a few days ago that said that Kazaa was going to surpass ICQ as the top downloaded program (at least, according to download.com). I'm sure it has by now - and just think of the millions of people that are unaware of all of the spyware that has invaded their system. :disa:

I bet it depends upon how you define "downloaded" Since a large chunk of web pages ask to autodownload macromedia stuff if it isn't on your comp, it seems it would get downloaded A LOT.

True, but those are considered plug-ins rather than full-fledged programs. Otherwise, I would have guessed the Flash plug-in to be the most downloaded.

Edit :)

My previous answer was not in the spirit of the thread.

you guys are not thinking on a large enough scale:
It is so Windows Update. And don’t say they dot count because there are different ones because all the programs listed about have also had different versions. And they do count as a program because they run on your computer, waste resources, and provide a service.

Definitely Kazaa. I was watching a channel called TechTV (I just moved into this apartment and they have all these great cable channels, my last residence we had 5 local channels!) and they announced that Kazaa had just surpassed ICQ as the most downloaded program on the internet.

Winzip because it's used in business and personal situations. Kazaa tends to be frowned on in the workplace.

sorry Roniman, you would lose out on jeopardy because you didn't answer
with a question.
the right answer would be, "what is kazaa?"

and Alex would say "that is correct." (http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/internet/05/23/media.kazaa.reut/index.html)

From DSLReports.com:
With Kazaa set to become the most downloaded free file on the internet...

The kicker is the word "free". A lot of the software we download is shareware, not free.

Well, I don't know that Kazaa isn't unconditionally the most downloaded program on the web. I guess I'm just playing devils advocate, or defending my guess of Winzip. :P

Trebek: This is the sound a doggy makes.

Connery: Moo.

Trebek: No!

Connery: Well that's the sound your mother made last night!

It is not winzip anymore because more and more people are not downloading it anymore because of OS's like WINXP already include a ZIP extracter.

it seems like this should be the right answer.

i mean, it doesn't come pre-installed in windows, and it seems like everyone would have to have it.....
