I decided to pop for the $60 (after rebates) 120GB WD drive from OfficeMax - I need it for quick backups (Ghost) of (about half) of my 2 120's (in Raid 0). The nice thing is that they are giving (at least at the store I went to) the 8MB buffer Special Edition drives! At 2GB/$1, that comes out to a pretty nice deal. :D

I went to my local OfficeMax and asked for the special edition 120GB drive. I asked the woman about a possible sale on it, and she said that they didn't even have flyers this week (I saw it advertised on a link from Fat Wallet for $60 after rebates). It was $167, tax included, and there were 2 rebates (30+50) to make it $87. I tried using a Staples 30 off 150 e-mail coupon that said valid for in-store, and explained that OM's website accepts competitor coupons, but the same woman denied me. GRRRR! At both the OM's back home, they gladly accept my email coupons, but I guess I'm stuck with this.

Oh well, I'm selling 2 of my 60GB 5400rpm drives for $75, so I'm consolidating and getting much better speeds for $12 I guess :)

i really really really (repeat many many times :) ) hate the office max near me. first time i dealt with them, they wouldn't take back something i ordered. their explanation is office max online sells different stuff than they do (actually, it was the wrong thing ordered, but i should be able to take it back still). when in fact, office max online says that it can be returned TO ANY OM STORE! now when i have orders i need to return, i take that printed out form with me ... the OMs at school were awesome, they returned something i bought (and i still got full discount because they didn't acknowledge that) and gave me a gift card which is totally fine.

I asked the manager this morning at the local OfficeMax store about that deal. He didn't even know about the two rebates totalling $80 until he looked in the May rebate booklet that are availble at the counter. I was going to get one until I saw that it was the 2MB cache unit.
The price is $159.99 minus $80.00. How can you get it for $60.00?

I called mine to maks sure they had one and they did. Only I don't know that I need 320 GB total. Though I might get one anyway.

Correct. My receipt shows $159.99 - $20 instant rebate - and less the $50 and $30 MIRs brings to total to $59.99 (plus tax on the $139.99).

While I was there, I picked up 200 CDRs that are free after rebate as well. 150 of them are K-hypermedia. :D

There are two separate MIRs ($30 and $50) on the drive. One uses the UPC, the other the "Capacity" label of the box. One also accepts a copy of the register receipt.

The $50 rebate is also in the OM rebate booklet on page 48 (I think), it's a manufacturer's rebate in addition to the OM rebate.

Now, this begs the question, where can I find proof that the drive was supposed to be on sale with $20 instant rebate off? I could go back to them and get a crisp $20 if someone can find it :D

EDIT: Also, since my Staples coupon didn't work, other people have used online OM coupon printouts with success. If I went back to get the $20, do you think I could use a coupon as well? Keep in mind that I've already cut out the UPC of the box and such for the rebates, but that may be irrelevant, as I think I'd only need the receipt (only needed that for other price fixes).

What do you think?

Well, you could start with online OfficeMax sales ad (http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prePrintSelect.jsp?bvc=yes) Pick your state and city. In Illinois (you can just click on the first city - Aurora) it shows on the first page of the ad.

It's also at the rebate link at the OfficeMax.com website. It's a pdf file.

what online coupon printouts? :)

i highly doubt the store near me would do that ... maybe i'll go to a different one :)

when you bought it, did they print out two receipt copies for you?

They gave me just a regular receipt, and said to make 2 copies of it, so I still have the original receipt in hand.

What about price fixing, think it'd work?
