I've been feeling physically drained for about 10 days now, and about a week ago I got a prescription for strep-like symptoms. The Dr. said I should come back this week if I keep feeling sluggish, and today I'm having trouble finishing my Signals and Systems homework that's due tomorrow as well as even walking around!

I'm the kind of person that doesn't like to let being ill bring me down, but with mono, I remember that my sister (much like me in that attitude) had to miss some class and just lie in bed. The pamphlet I got said to get 10-12 hours a sleep each night if you have it

Do you have any experiences... did it really nail ya or were you able to keep up with everything like normal when you had it?

Guess it doesn't help that the only class I'm taking this first summer session is at 8am :hmm:

My mom got it in college. Such a severe case that she missed most of a semester! Had to study at home.

I had it my sophomore year in college. I went to school and work, I don't think I missed anything, but I was extremely tired and found it very hard to concentrate. I think it took about four weeks to recover and I still didn't feel the same for months afterwords. Just walking from one class to the next would leave me breathing heavy. Two of my symptoms were, glands very swollen in neck on both sides, and a little later on I had white spots on my throat.

If I kissed or shared a drink with someone in the past few weeks, and I find out I have mono, does that 100% mean that they'll get it too? I know people assume that if you kiss someone while you have it, they're going to get it, but is that necessarily guaranteed?

I've had it, twice. It knocked me on my butt both times. I missed a month of my senior year of high school, and the second, I had to take a medical leave from work. I really hope you don't have it, feel better soon!

If you have it, do what they say and take care of yourself! I didn't and ended up in the hospital for 8 days. I went to my normal doctor several times over a period of about 4 months and he never diagnosed it. So I tried a new doctor. He put me in the hospital immediately.

Don't laugh, but my first symptom was a swollen uvula (that thingy that hangs down in the back of your throat!)

ugh mono... I had it 2 years ago, basically killed my spring semester of school.
I went to the school doctors, they just said I had a cold and to go away, so then I went home for spring break and was even sicker. My throat got all swelled up and eventually I ended up in the hospital because my throat was closing. first I couldn't eat, then I couldn't drink, then I couldn't swallow... next was no breathing, so i was in the hospital for 3 days on steroids and pain killers.

But all semester before and after that I was just sleeping all the time, had absolutely no energy, didn't want to do anything, just was totally drained. It sucks big time.

I had mono, influenza and bronchitis at the same time. Took it as a sign from god not to go to college. Spent 6 months just trying to approach normal, spent years dealing with bouts with touches of mono coming back every so often. Sucks hard.

Well, I'm gonna go back home in a month or so and schedule my tonsilectomy! wheeeeeeeeeee!!

I've never had surgery before, so I'm hoping some quack isn't holding the surgical tools.

Gonna go to the Dr. tomorrow and get bloodwork, find out if this is mono.
