So I bought me a sick tank for my sick fishy and i went and bought a better spong filter for it. I got this sponge filter:

the guy at the (independant) pet store recommended it, so i figure it should work well.

I get home hook everything up and then realize the spong filter isn't doing what i expected. but then realize, is doing what i expected really what it's supposed to do?

anyways, I got the air pump hooked up to it and the air is escaping through the top, not through the foam. is this what it's supposed to do? i thought the air is supposed to pass through the foam.

If there are chunks, you've got a problem.

Though, at $213,000 per liter, they'd better filter this stuff (http://news.excite.com/odd/article/id/329323|oddlyenough|05-29-2003::09:45|reuters.html) to ensure quality.
