A baby rabbit... definitely wild type. What should I do with it? Is it possible to keep it as a pet? I kid you not... it's no bigger than my fist and eating up a storm. I'm cutting my lawn and giving it the clipping for a bedding and food. Seems to love it.

Frigging rabbits grow and crap like crazy. I definitely wouldn't let it near your baby either. They scratch like no other.

I thought you were gonna say you found a body or something cool. Oh well.

Make sure you take bunny to get rabies shots etc... if you decide to keep it.

Is it the brown colored jack rabbit kind? Prolly won't stick around unless you cage it if it is.

Do you want it as a pet? If so, then keep it! I know lots of people with them.

My kids found a baby rabbit in the yard a couple weeks ago. They played with it and fed it some grass and watch it eat. Then they untied the dog and watched it eat.

My kids have a firm grasp on the whole "circle of life" thing...

well when I say baby I really mean baby rabbit. Dogs love the rabbit... always playing with it and licking it. I'm not sure if that's a good idea though. Never know what they are thinking.

As for biting... it's been manhandled and doesn't do a thing so far. I'll have to cage it most of the time.

Ok so here's the pics

Jenny

How cute!

Well... several options I could think of.

If you want it as a pet, keep it. Start reading about the things you need for it (cage, food, toys, etc. lol). Above all, take it to the vet, just in case.

If you don't want it as a pet, call around to pet stores, vet clinics, etc. Find out if they will take it. Or ask the vet what you should do with it. It may just be best if you put it back outside, or take it to someplace not as busy, etc.

You could just chuck it back outside (I don't mean literally throwing it. ;) ). Just keep in mind that now that it has been "manhandled", it may not want to leave. :)

so, did it poop on your diet coke?

If you don't want to keep it, call your local humane society. If they don't take it they can probably refer you to someone who will.

My in-law's dog once found a nest of baby rabbits & proudly brought one up to the house for us, but it was a lot younger than that one - its eyes were just open. We had no idea where the nest was, so we called the humane society & they told us to bring it right in. They have an afilliation with a group that specializes in nursing wild animals back to health & then releasing them.

Don't know if he made it OK or not, but I figured that he'd have a much better chance than with me!

well the wife used to raise rabbits so we have all the cages and knowledge on what to do. I guess we're keeping it for a while at least. There's a large field a block away if we ever want to release it... but there a mess of coyotes in the area and large birds. I'd hate to send it to it's death.

Have you ever read Watership Down?

Some rabbit names in the book were Bigwig, Fiver and, my favorite, Pipkin. :)

I asked the kids in the neighborhood and they came up like spot, lucky, and well that's it... not much there so far.

My wife's family had a house bunny for 9 years. My wife would like to get a house bunny to go with the Diamondback Terrapin and the weiner dog, but we're not too sure how the weiner dog would behave around a bunny (considering she wants to attack every cat she sees, she probably wouldn't be very good with a bunny either).

As for having a house rabbit, there are many great resources available. One is the House Rabbit Society at http://www.rabbit.org/ and for a list of rabbit veterinarians you can go to http://www.bunnyluv.org/veterinarians.htm.

I hope this helps you out and good luck with the bunny.

heh no, those little ones are his "children" being that we had originally 1 female and 1 male (the rabbit with the bisquit on his head) which then multiplied giving us 4 more female rabbits... and those little buggers were from a new batch of 4. Since then though, there have been 2 failed litter attempts where all the babies died. :(

I have a female Diamondback Terrapin named Otis.

Why Otis? When turtles are hatchlings you can't really be sure what gender they are so I flipped a coin. I had a 50/50 chance and came up short on that one. Oh well.

i definitely live far away from you... can't take a step in our backyard without tripping over a rabbit. they're fun for eg to chase because they are significantly dumber than he is...

we're on the verge of shootin some of the lil bastids - they keep finding ways inside the garden fence, and dammit, we're subsitence farming here! - but we don't want to do it when the kids are awake, and they aren't out much at night.

i once babysat for kids that had a thirteen year old rabbit. it was the size of a cocker spaniel. so just be aware of what you're getting into!
