Okay, so I'm really thinking about buying this laptop, but I originally wanted to wait for a Dell Inspiron 8xxx series laptop deal.

The only things that worry me are its integrity when compared against the Dell Laptops, that it doesn't have 2.0 USB, and no S-Video connection.

Here are the specs for the Sony VAIO GRV670:

2.6Ghz Pentium 4 processor
512MB DDR SDRAM
64MB ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 video chip
16" (not a misprint!)
1280x1024 TFT LCD
DVD/CD-RW combo drive
40GB HD
10/100 NIC
56k modem
memory stick reader
built in i.LINKŪ [IEEE 1394 FireWire].

It`s $1599.99 - $100 mail in rebate (expires 6/30/03, linked right there on the product page).

Does anyone know if the P4 processor has Hyperthreading technology in it?

What should I do?

Hyperthreading is only available with the 3.06 processor I believe.

I believe Sony is coming with a new line of Viao's (Centrino) and thus prices may be dropping on the older models.

Whoops, too late. I already ordered it. I was able to get another $20 off of the price, but I ordered the extended warranty.

Let's hope my laptop malfunctions right before the 3 year mark, and then I get a new one!

Anyway, FYI, the guy said these have been selling pretty fast today and didn't know why....;)

I think this is a good deal. The specs are sweet.

I have a 1.6 sony viao, its an okay machine. But Sony support sucks, and you can not install driver updates unless you use their restore cd as a base. I just tossed XP Pro on it and tried to update and it told me I did not have a sony laptop. Also the hard drives are loud and the cdroms tend to dissapear from time to time, ad few reboots usually fixes it. As in speed its great, and the video ram is pretty good. I can play Matrix Reloaded well on it. Just giving you a heads up before you jump into it. If you are a good technical person it is for you. THe problems are not hard to deal with. But as a normal user I would shy away a little bit. BUt the price is good, I paid about the same for mine about 7 months ago.
