blackout games that are NOT your teams, or how MLB wants you to drive 100miles

Baseball has the worst management in history. They have this huge following, but manage to kill their own market share and interest. Yeah, raising ticket and concession prices will bring in more people to the games. Screwing fans with $20 parking fees, no local tv coverage, bad teams with no interest in getting better will surely increase the fan base. Forcing cities to pay for $400 million dollar stadiums, then raise prices, dump salary and suck is a great way to promote the team.

Can someone give them some common sense?

Where did you hear this? To the best of my memory MLB has never said games won't be shown unless there is a capacity/critical mass crowd. Football and Basketball, yes, but not baseball. If I were to venture a guess it probably has more to do with who controls the local broadcasting rights then the crowd size. But you are right, MLB does its best to kill the goose that lays the golden egg. :disa:

exactly what i was thinking.

they black out the TBS coverage for the mets/braves games up in ny so that the local contracts (foxsports or wb) can get their advertising money.

now, what channel did they black out the o's games on?

blackout rules never ever have made sense to me.

i just do not understand why sports owners think that TV coverage will reduce attendance at the games.

i'm sorry, but when tix are $30 and the venue is an hour from my house, i'm not going to spend the time and money to go to a game in most cases. but if it's on tv, then i'll watch it. i would guess that most sports fans are the same way. they don't check the tv schedule and then decide to attend the game since it's not on tv.
