everyone who posts on message boards gets to "know" some of the people who post there. what is the longest amount of time you have kept in contact with a person from online, and haven't met them or known them IRL?

my record is that i have kept in contact with one person online for about two years. we have become real good friends. :)

Oh, wow. Well over two years now in many cases, all of them on GA. :) I'm closer to a few ppl in here than I am to many IRL.

Golly.

I have met one person (aside from my hubby, who I met via email so I don't really count as meeting "online") in real life from online, I think.

I have 3 people that I met here that I consider my very good friends (they should know that I am talking about them. :) ) and I would love to meet all of them in person. :D

There is this girl who first IM'd me in 97 and I talked with her relatively often until last year. She is still on my IM list, but I havent IM'd her or vice versa since then. So I guess it was 5 years when I stopped talking with her.

There was another woman who I spoke to for a couple of years, but since she suddenly got married I havent bothered because she started acting erratic. (were talking ERRATIC) and no, there wasnt any romantic interest or anything..she was just an intersting person to talk to.

There's a few people from the early days of AOL that I still talk with. That must be like 8 years ago at least!

Oh god there's this one girl i've known online for probably 8 or 9 years. Met her when I was in middle school and used AOL.

There are a few others i've been really really good firends with for about 3 years chatting just about everyday. Online friends are great.

When I was pregnant with Brayden, who is now nearly 4, I joined an iVillage pregnancy circle. I got close with some of the gals there, and we've remained friends. In fact, this Feb, some of us met up in Las Vegas, and we had a great time. I talk to them everyday.

Any of you remember when the crazy internet lady offered me $2000 to get naked from the neck down?

Haven't heard from her in a few months

Mine is probably like 7 or 8 years. I met this person over the VMS system in college and it wasn't until about 3 or 4 years after I was done with undergrad that I met him b/c he was good friends with the brother of one of my friends. It was cool to meet him after so many years of sending (kind of like AIM but on the VMS/VAX system) each other.

There are at least a dozen people i have met at Thunderdome.ws where I played CS religiously many moons ago. I still play there, just not as often. However, i've developed friendships with many people over there, but have never met any of them.

I've met sho.gun from here..but i only started chattin' with him after i sold him a minidisc player.

i've only met one other online friend irl, and he turned out to be a nutjob.

other than that, i do find it awkward to meet an online friend irl. it is no different than going out with a friend and meeting his friends...that friend is basically the internet..just an intermediary/medium to communicate. {shrugs}

i have a decent record of meeting ppl online who meet my expectations of them when i meet them. johnnymk was a tad different than i thought, but not in personality. but the ppl that i figged i'd like, i liked, and those that i didn't i didn't meet. i plan on seeing a few more apexers that are here locally, and hopefully some when i visit home again.

The longest would be three people who I met online in 1990. I've now known them for 13 years.

I moved to States 8 years ago and that was the first time for me to use internet. I met lots of people thru an online text-based game called Gemstone III (it was free back in the old AOL 3.0). Eventually I met some of them in real life, and they are all good people! (quite surprise me, really) I still keep in touch with most of them either online or via phone. Actually, come to think about it. I've met a lot of friends online and some of them turned into my best friends. :)
