Does this kind of "swearing without swearing" annoy anyone else?

Yes, I'm cranky today. Someone pour a bucket of ice water on me.

i've always said that context is everything. if ppl get hung up on words, then yeah, we can just ban certain words. but if you drop something heavy on your toe, that doesn't mean that i know what you really mean when you say "golly"

I'm stayin away from OC today then

I don't swear at all... gone 20 years without it, and who knows how it happened. I like to think it was an experiment with gamma rays gone wrong, but I'll go with my parents just programmed me not to. The only way I skeef by is by using "crap" all the time. Crap = poop, stuff, work, things, an exclamation, jibba jabba, etc. It's a word for all words. :o

I don't really swear much.

What bugs me is swearing in the workplace. There are folks who are offended by it and to me it just shows a lack of respect.

What is really upsetting is when you go to a sports event and you have a bunch of drunk guys cursing like sailors when there are little kids around.

I never ****ing swear. Well, only on certain ****ing occasions. Like when I am mad, happy, sad, lonely, vengeful, irritated, pissed off, eating a banana, watching cops, siging in church, looking at porn, resistant, posting, glad, horny, working, and sleeping.

No swearing here. Sometimes I say "crap". Like "where did I leave that crap". If I need to shout something when I'm surprised or amazed, I'll say "wow".

It really annoys me when people swear in the presence of children and women. If I catch you doing that, I will ask you to stop.

Heck is for people who don't believe in Gosh.

I used to cuss a lot in high school (it was that kind of high school), anyways, I've been trying to cuss less, so I swap cuss words with other words ex: A$$ with rear or hiney, Hell with heck, etc... I know it sounds stupid, but I figure if I feel stupid saying it, it's more motivation for me to find better words.

I usually cuss unless there is someone around who is offended by it then I just don't cuss. I also don't cuss if there are older people (grand parents age) or children around. I personally think that if you don't cuss that much and then you drop the f-bomb people will really take notice and listen more to what you have to say.

having been raised by christian standards, "cursing" is something i've thought a lot about. what it really comes down to is that it's not a moral issue, it's a social issue.

if you bang your finger with a hammer, screaming "f***" and screaming "ouch" are virtually the same thing. you're not any more a righteous person because you used "ouch," just as you're not any more inherently wrong for using "f***." it's just that, for various reasons stemming from the historical contexts of certain words, "f***" has been deemed offensive and inappropriate while "ouch" has been deemed acceptable.

having said that, i really hate it when people take a "holier than tho" stance and use "foul" language as a guage for general impropriety.

ok ok, i do understand that one cannot expect to live outside of socially prescribed conventions unless one is prepared to be considered a social outcast, and i also understand that being able to control oneself in lieu of these conventions indicates a certain level of maturity, but i still don't like it. i dunno... this is just one of those issues that irks me to no end; i could write pages and pages about it, but i don't have the energy...
