Sounds like somebody's having a problem with their Plextor review. :P
Just kidding. I, too, believe that too much emphasis is placed on them. While it's not something to be totally ignored, I wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket.

Agreed... I have an old ATI 8MB AllInWonder Video Capture Card installed in a 1.2 GHz system. I use it to capture analog video. With the latest NERO Vision Express, I can convert 50 minutes of avi to VCD in 45-55 minutes.
Using Pinnacle Expression, the conversion takes 50% longer.
But I am sure that with the right combination of processor, memory, OS or whatever, Pinnacle would probably work better than the results I obtained.

wow that made more sense then prolly anything ive read in the last few months, i couldnt agree more. i hate the fact that you DO get 10-15 pages of benchmarks, THEY DONT MEAN ANYTHING TO ME. i usually, at this point anyway, just skip ahead to the conclusion to see if its better, worse, or whatever in comparison to the thing its against. what most people dont get is that you will prolly NEVER have that exact setup and if you do there is a chance that you benchmarks wont be exactly the same anyway. people really do need to see past the hype and the bull **** and focus on what things do well and what they suck at. if its good dont tell me oh it pulls 409 fps in quake 3, that means nothing to me, hell i cant most of that refresh anyway, tell me if it runs smooth and if it FEELS right, how it runs with other games and what defects you see before i drop money on it.
that is all.

:stupid:
I'm with you on that. I never have, nor will I ever run a benchmark on any component on my system. It always cracks me up to see someone getting all hot & bothered because his video card only pulled 300fps in a quake test when it should be at LEAST 310! Who cares! Does it run the software in the resolution you want without jerkiness? Then it's fast enough.

Not really - pinnacle's conversion from avi to mpg, which is what you are doing when you make a VCD, is notoriously slow. And yet, of all the ones I have played with, it gives me the better picture quality, so what the heck.
