I have a question about rent payments. If 3 people are moving into a 2 bedroom apartment, how should the cost be split? I've heard of 50%, 25%, 25% and 30%, 30%, 40%. Whats the most reasonable way to split the cost and the reasoning for it? Thanks.

if u really want to be technical, measure the rooms and divide it by that. but yes, the person with their own bedroom will pay more.

I had a friend who did this. It worked out well for paying the rent. The utilities however was something else.

Here's how I do it. Utilities are split 3 ways (except phone... you pay for your calls, and whoever uses the phone chips in for the base charge). As for rent... there are a bunch of ways to do this. If it's a 2 bd. 2 bth., then I agree with everybody else... whoever gets his own bath and bed pays half... the other two split the other half. Or... if your friends are messed up like mine, then split the rent 3 ways evenly, pick 2 numbers each (1-6) and roll the dice to see who gets their own bedroom/bathroom and who has to share. Depends on what your financial situations are and who is interested in space versus who is interested in money.
