UPDATE: see post below

I swear I'm gonna get it, I just have a weird feeling!

Apparently what you do is search for lumps, kinda like in breast cancer, but from what I heard, if you catch it early, you can have it removed and live a normal life thereafter most cases.

Any success stories that you've had or you've heard about in overcoming this? I'm gonna look up some more info on it, because I'm awfully "scurred" :P

EDIT: I found an article from mayoclinic.com:

"
You — and many others — probably wouldn't guess that testicular cancer is the most common cancer in American men between the ages of 15 and 35. Denial and embarrassment about the testicles contribute to making testicular cancer one of the least mentioned cancers.

Yet the disease deserves serious attention. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 7,500 men receive a diagnosis of testicular cancer each year in the United States. An estimated 400 men die of testicular cancer annually.

When detected early, however, testicular cancer is highly treatable. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for men of all ages. Adolescent boys and young men should be particularly aware of the signs and symptoms of the disease and do regular testicular self-exams."

I'm also worried about prostate cancer, although that usually doesn't occur until you are around 50. Times like this I wish it was status quo that men had reproductive organ doctors! (A girl going to an obstetrician/gynacologist is pretty routine)

why so worried?? there are a few normal "lumps" on the boys.... it's when they are painful for no reason or get larger over time that you have to worry.

you have pain??? or genetic history??? or are you *fapping* so much it hurts.

trying to conceive??

My wife's father died from what started as prostate cancer. From what I understand, it's extremely slow-growing and it's also extremely common in older men. I remember reading somewhere about a study (I can't remember where, so take this with a grain of salt) on a bunch of old (90+) cadavers and every single one had it to some degree, although they all died of other ailments. If you're worried, get it checked.

I won't get too up close and personal, but just takin a wee used to be a lot smoother... part of prostate problems is that since it controls the liquids that go through your urethra, when you have a prostate problem, you don't have as much control in gettin the pee pee out (or whatever else). Also, fatigue and tiredness is an indicator of problems, which I've been suffering from for almost a month now (after the first 1-2 weeks, thought it was just viral illness, then after 3 weeks, thought it was mono-- tested negative).

I hope it's just a passing phase or somethin! <fingers crossed>

Have you consulted a doctor about your concerns?

I'm about to make the call to my parents about it. It's really hard for me to be like, "I need to go to the doctor because I think I might have a testicular problem" because our family is very non-talkitive about these issues. But it's time to face up, because I think they will be able to help me more than seeing the school doctors of Virginia Tech.

there could be other prostate problems... my father had a problem with his. it wasn't cancer but basically he had problems going, the muscle got tired. he had a surgical procedure done to fix it. all better now, and it WASN'T cancer.

definitely should get it checked.

Alrighty...now you guys got me worried about it. I dunno how you check for prostate cancer but for testicular you have to feel your balls for unusaul bumps and differences in size from the other ball. You should know what your boys should feel like and how round they should be. I took a sex class in college and they passed around a bag with two balls so you could feel what a normal male testicles felt like.

I guess I should get a complete physical with my family doctor soon. Better safe then sorry and that's what all this medical insurance I've been paying for should be used for. No sense for it to go to waste.

my cousin had testicular cancer a few years back (he was a freshman or sophomore in college at the time). it was a long battle for him but he did pull through and he's doing fine now.

i have known a lot of older men who have had prostate cancer....it's obviously a lot more common in people who are older. but you should definitely see a dr about your concerns.....

You might have a urinary tract infection. If so, it's just a few days of antibiotics and you're back to good.

So I went to the doctor and this is what happened:

He did one of the quick tests to feel for lumps and of course there wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Then he asks me if I want him to check out my prostate, so I'm like what does that involve? Well, ashamed to say, prostate checks are NOT FUN! IT requires them to shove their hand up your bum and feel around for it. Man that was not cool  So apparently my prostate is a bit more firm than it ought to be, so he thinks it might be infected.

I take a urine test and they find white blood cells in it. Well, urine is supposed to be sterile, so, uh oh! I am now on an antibiotic for 2 weeks and supposed to watch even more closely for lumps in the near future.

However, the "doctor" I saw was only a physician's assistant - the only male staff member for the school health center. So logically, my parents are gonna try to get me to come home to Pittsburgh and see a specialist/real doctor. Also supposed to get a tonsilectomy ASAP (I get sick every 2-4 weeks :bawl: ) And the worst part is, I only have ONE WEEK between end of summer session and the start of my fall co-op at M/A-COM (http://www.macom.com)

How am I going to do this! keke

Thanks... I agree with that kind of immediate action. Even though you are Just a Potato, I have faith in a spud's advice ;)
