maxtor may have had too many 120GB drives made, and decided that the cost difference between the 100GB and the 120GB is almost nil, thats why they can ship 120GB drives in 100GB pkgs, and make it seem like youre getting more than what you paid for.
I still like my Maxtor 160GB, which I paid $81.xx for (after MIR).

Most of their 7200rpm models are 40GB per side. So the 120GB model is 2 platters, 3 sides.

that's what I thought. I wonder if it's just a matter of a firmware change to make it a 160GB drive.
